Gossip – Move In The Right Direction (Classixx Remix)

There will always be contention when producers rework a classic artist and criticism can be rife when the likes of Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles or Elvis are played with.

Croatia’s Pied Piper hasn’t shredded, torn or added a horrible dubstep wobble to The Door’s ‘Break On Through’, but instead he’s extended the song by blending two rare versions and reinstating a key lyric that wasn’t present in many of the official releases.

This is what he had to say;

“The original album version and all reissues until the 1990s have the word “high” deleted, with Morrison singing “she gets” four times before a final wail.

Originally recorded on only 4-track master in most atrocious state with tracks mutually interbleeding, each was re-mastered and cleaned and re-processed as much as possible, still sounding pretty much raw and lo-fi, but not bad considering it was recorded in 1967, originally pressed in MONO. This here is a special vocal instrumental 6 minute version while the original was barely over 2 minutes long. Drum track was doubled and re-panned, while the best track remains the vocal, which is also the most usable.”

The Doors – Break On Through (Re-Mixed by Pied Piper)

Tanlines are production duo Eric and Jesse hailing from Brooklyn, NYC. Although they have been making music together since 2008 I only just caught up with them and their early 2012 album ‘Mixed Emotions’.

Tanlines’ sound is a chopped up mix of indie electronica and splashes of tropical tinged synth pop – but it also has a prog-rock glitchy undertone which ensures it doesn’t sound to lightweight. Tracks like ‘Brothers’ show off deep almost melancholy vocals, and tracks like ‘Real Life’ have hints of techno and samba.

It’s been a good while since we’ve heard anything from the pair who go by the name of Flight Facilities, and we’ve been patiently waiting for the new single since it was announced by their label Future Classic at the beginning of the month.

‘With You’ features the deep vocals of Grovesnor (better known as the drummer in Hot Chip) and animator Ben Drake spent months crafting the “Megaman, Daft Punk & Astroboy inspired” anime.

A remix package is synonymous with most Future Classic releases and efforts from Danny Daze, MAM and David August are all amazing – and most importantly, completely different!

Here is a weekend discovery of mine that needs to be shared. This is the afrobeat tinged folk funk of Scrimshire featuring Heidi Vogel. Apparently Giles Peterson is a fan of Scrimshire’s music, which is always a good sign I think.

This track ‘Everything You Say’ sounds like pure summer and the video makes a really quirky use of projection  - look out for full album over on Scrimshire’s bandcamp page.
