RE:GENERATION

I get a little cagey when big companies and brands invest money in music-based projects when their own business operations couldn’t be further from music – yet every now and then there will be a worthwhile project which gets together the correct creative minds and comes away with something meaningful and even inspirational.
Car manufacturer Hyudai are cross promoting their new car with a project called RE:GENERATION which sees the likes of DJ Premier, Skrillex, Mark Ronson, Pretty Lights and The Crystal Method come out of their typical musical comfort zones and delve into genres that have been fundamentally influential to them and team up with some legends in the process to create brand new sounds.
The result, as you’ll see in the YouTube trailer, are moments of revelation and frustration but the key aspect here is that an album of sorts featuring all the work is being given away as a free download on the official website with a feature length film to follow.
Amongst all of the melee, one of our favourite UK producers/artists Bonobo has remixed the huge collaborative Mark Ronson track – have a listen!

Kate Bush
The ever eccentric and uber-talented Kate Bush has released a gorgeous shadow puppet video for her track ‘Eider Falls at Lake Tahoe’ from her most recent album ’50 Words for Snow’. This is a visual feast.
Kate Bush – Eider Falls at Lake Tahoe
Active Child – Hanging On
James Vincent McMorrow – Live at Paradiso

In the run up to the release of the new European Special Edition album and hot off a full European tour, the JVMM camp released a beautiful video and tour montage featuring two of his songs that we here at Mahogany adore.
His audiences all over the world are growing radidly but it’s Western Europe that seems to be very strong at the moment and who can blame them given their amazing selection of great acoustic venues like the Paradiso in Amsterdam!
Josh Osho

At about 3am this morning I watched upcoming singer-songwriter Josh Osho’s reinventive acoustic cover of Kanye West and Jamie Foxx’s Jesus Walks and I was left absolutely speechless by it.
The guy has broken the song down to it’s absolute core elements and carefully built it back up in a beautiful fashion – utilising his guitars in more ways and demonstrating some stunning vocal abilitiies.
Virtual pat-on-the-back to Mr Osho – I hope Kanye’s seen it.
Wish You Were Hear #4
Lucovico Einaudi playing one of his most famous compositions at the stunning Royal Albert Hall in London in 2010.
If you’re not familiar with the Italian composer, you would have heard his music on the This Is England film and it’s TV counterparts, which he scored.
Unbelievable music and this show would have been absolutely incredible.
SBTRKT – Atomic Piece

By popular demand from his huge network of fans around the globe, SBTRKT has unveiled a previously unreleased edit/remix that was originally played on his 2009 guest mix for Radio 1′s Mary Ann Hobbs.
SBTRKT and his growing team of collaborators are preparing for the tour all over the world this year, touching in Australia, Europe and the US – it’s a show that never disappoints and a big regret of mine was not being able to make their iTunes festival show.
Stay Out Of The Sun

The video to accompany Mr Fogg’s ‘Stay Out Of The Sun’ went live online this week and it’s a solid piece of filming-making, with credit going to director Rob Francis and his team – as well as Mr Fogg himself for a great song.
You can download this song for free on Mr Fogg’s website.
