Two absolutely astonishing songs for you today.

The first from Supertroel’s remix of very interesting Danish collective Boom Clap Bachelors. Not sure when this came out but it’s an amazing minimal progressive pop sound.

I got the Edit Music For A Film albums from UNKLE last night and loaded it up for my walk to work this morning. On came this classic Moby instrumental (from Heat) given the merging/remix treatment by UNKLE. The original in itself is a soaring song and this version gives it an extra bit of edge.

Again, amazing.

If you love a good movie then you’ve probably seen Crash (2004) which I found incredible -- the Score by Mark Isham was equally as impressive and the Arabic vocals for this particular song settled perfectly for a film that highlighted so much prejudice in the Western world.

This is the song during the dramatic car rescue scene with Matt Dillon and Thandie Newton.

Looking forward to watching this film again.

Gladiator is hands down one of my all-time favourite films and the music to accompany the film helps capture the incredible atmosphere throughout the movie.

The original score and soundtrack is composed by the legendary Hans Zimmer and sung by Australian Contralto singer Lisa Gerrard. Interestingly enough many of the songs Lisa Gerrard has sung in her career are not sung in any language in-particular; instead she let’s her voice travel with the music and whatever sounds come out is what is recorded. Bon Iver uses a similar technique to this.

The soundtrack won a Golden Globe and was nominated for an Academy Award when the film was released in 2000.

We all know the tragic yet triumphant ending of Gladiator set in the epic Colosseum and the last song, Now We Are Free,  is the one that really pulls the heart strings.

Have you seen Smokin’ Aces?

Bit of a silly film but hearing this OutKast oldie made the 2 hours somewhat worthwhile.

Alicia Keys, who looks incredible, is sitting with two other ladies in a Diner and the background music is indistinguishable however it’s not listed in the musical credits either so it drove me insane for a day or two whilst I was trying to find it.

Found it.

It’s just a classic – the trumpets of this song slide in like melted butter and we hear Andre 3000 at his poetic best.

OutKast – SpottieOttieDopaliscious

It’s been a while since The Love Below and Speakerboxxx albums- I think it’s fair to say we’re all ready for some more creative goodness from OutKast.

Arguably one of my favourite films of all time is Heat -- De Niro and Pacino have never been better enemies and we’ll never forget that downtown L.A. shoot-out.

My favourite Moby track is featured in the soundtrack for this film and it’s one of the most epic songs I’ve ever heard.

The track is from his 1997 compilation album ‘I Like To Score’ so it was from quite early on in his career.

Whoever was on the piano during this song would get a hug from me.

Foxy!

A.R. Rahman chose the soundtrack for Slumdog Millionaire and boy did he do a good job – two Oscars under his belt for the Score!

The Slumdog Millionaire soundtrack was never given a proper listen through by Mahogany Blog (until now) and earlier today a song grabbed us by the throat and gave us a big wet kiss.

Paper Planes has been worked on by so many people it was getting a little tedious but this DFA remix has brought new life to the song.
