Power To The People Playlist (Pt. 2)

Posted on Tuesday, August 30, 2011 in Playlists

This has been such a fun project so far and the submissions on our Facebook page have been great.

In case you missed it, this mini-series puts Mahogany followers in the driving seat and all submissions we got are to be included here across 3 posts.

Without further ado, here is Part duex!

——————————————————————————–

Dennis // Fenech-Soler – Stop and Stare

We’re massive fans of Fenech-Soler and grew even fonder of the boys after their stripped back Mahogany session. Stop and Stare was one of their first ever videos on YouTube (which ultimately led to their signing to Warner Music) and one of our favourites.

Jonathan // The Temper Trap – Science of Fear (Mistabishi Remix)

The remix packages to emerge (both official and bootleg) from The Temper Trap’s first album were incredibly strong and this drum and bass remix packs a serious bit of spice.

Hanna // Land of The Giants – Love Me If You Dare

Thanks to Hanna for a submitting this. These lads from the South West are completely new to me and all I want to do now is go and see them live! The percussion has hints of Fat Fred’s as well.

Tranisha // Different Cloth ft. Saint Saviour – Bitter Song

Modern male jazz singer teams up with one of the UK’s most exciting female singers!

Jo // The O’Jays – Put Our Heads Together

Absolutely classic O’Jays track and massively refreshing to hear it again. It’s so clear to hear how modern producers have been influenced by this kind of stuff.

Gerald // Mos Def – Umi Says (Zero 7 Remix)

Zero 7 take on a Mos Def classic. Have to be honest and say it’s the first time we’ve heard this little gem!

Anna // Fleet Foxes – Mykonos (Live at Abbey Road)

From their 2008 debut album, Mykonos is a truly beautiful song and this live version from the historical Abbey Road studios is breathtaking.

Lauren // Stephen Marley ft. Melanie Fiona – No Cigerette Smoke (In My Room)

One of our favourite Marley boys whose popular single with the soulful vocals of Melanie Fiona is perfectly timed just after the Notting Hill Carnival in London.

Julie // Gotye – Somebody That I Used To Know ft. Kimbra

What a great discovery. Julie submitted Belgian artist Gotye featuring Kiwi artist Kimbra. The stop-motion video was directed by Natasha Pincus and has amassed over 3 million views in just one month!

Samuel // Owl City – Fireflies (Etubbs and Trillbass Insomniac Remix)

Etubbs and Trillbass take the incredibly nauseating Owl City track to a new destination. It’s definitely an improvement!

Power To The People Playlist (Pt. 1)

Posted on Wednesday, August 24, 2011 in Playlists

We love to bring you music that we love but YOU are just as important and we know you all have some great music we’ve probably never heard before.

On Facebook earlier we reached out and asked you to choose a song you absolutely love which would in turn compile these Power To The People playlists.

Already we’ve heard some lovely music as well as some personal favourites which shows how similar our tastes are.

Withour further ado, here is part 1 and thank you for your input, you have no idea how much we appreciate it!

(more of your recommendations coming later in the week)

————————————————————————

Andrew // Younger Brother – Night Lead Me Astray

We featured an exclusive remix of this back in 2010 from this great band, the original transports us into cloud 9!

Nuno // William Fitzsimmons – Let You Break (featuring Julia Stone)

William Fitzsimmons is entirely new to us and this track ft. Julia Stone is really nice.

Jaye // Paper Tiger – Palace (Live on The Local Show)

Very interesting live performance blending female leads with an electronic backing.

Joe // S. Carey – In the Dirt

S. Carey is part of Bon Iver and his solo self-named project is under the same label (Jagjaguwar). Taken from his album All We Grow, the hints are Bon Iver are evident but it’s stands tall on it’s own. Gorgeous.

David // Brim and ‘Zadeh – Ldn

Minimal bass-driven track that requires some decent headphones to fully appreciate.

Elena // Maxwell – Sumthin’ Sumthin’

Neo-soul pioneer Maxwell and his 1996 track from the album Maxwell’s Urban Hangout Suite.

Stefan // Ed Solo – Age Of Dub (Sludge 001 Remix)

This Ed Solo track is very sharp on the productions and turned into something that could bring the foundations of your house down by Sludge 101! Liking this one a lot.

Mitch // City and Colour – Sleeping Sickness

City and Colour aka Dallas Green from Canada transformed his musical direction since Alexisonfire and demonstrates how versatile of an artist he is. We haven’t heard this track before but it’s great.

Naill // Diamond Messages – Liquid Summer

DM describe their music their songs as ‘crystalline particles, encoded and electrified to convey and captivate’. They also recommend you ‘take acid to our music‘ which is completely at your discretion.

Aliah // Aliah Sheffield – I Think I Can

Aliah Sheffield chose the self-promotion route and we completely respect that. Aliah – you have a fantastic voice and lyrics with substance so don’t stop what you’re doing!

OK so no real theme behind these tracks – just that they’re all great tracks being put on repeat frequently.

The first two tracks are from the Kitsune Maison Compilation 7 – I strongly suggest you further investigate it. One of the bands we tipped a couple of months ago are featured as well!

Enjoy!

Phoenix – Lisztomania (Classixx Remix)

Crystal Fighters – Xtatic Truth (Xtra Loud Mix)

Kasabian – Fire

Dub Pistols – Back To Daylight ft. Ashley Slater

Solid Gold – Get Over It
