I grew up…half upside down. I was a dancer/gymnast until I was about 13 and I was always standing on my head. It helped me think.

It all started when…I watched a VHS tape of the (old school) Doobie Brothers doing ‘Jesus is Just Alright’ live.

If I’m not playing music you’ll find me…reading, jogging or eating peanut butter.

I can’t perform unless I have…Jameson’s and a prayer.

My three dream festival headliners would be…Hop Farm, Bonnaroo & Glastonbury.

You’ll always see me wearing…my birdie necklace.

I wish I hadn’t…become so addicted to BBM but oh well!!

If there’s one thing I’ve learnt it’s…to always brush my teeth.

Give me 10 minutes and I’ll cook a great…Mac n Cheese.

Buy me a drink and I’ll…buy you one back (no funny business hehehe).

I’m not really into Scream-o punk music, but I do like System of a Down even though it’s a LOT of shouting. But CHOP SUEY! Is a choon!

My favourite food is…apples.

My favourite smell is…gingery.

My most recent release is…The Jackson Sessions EP came out 3rd May, “Painkillers” will be out August 9th, “Wasted In Jackson” (the album) will be out October 18th in the UK, October 26th in the US whoopee!!

We grew up… away from cities, and near to lots of untapped history – namely the borderlands between Cumbria and Northumberland/England and Scotland. As well as the Isle of Guernsey and Kent. We are widely spread.

It all started when…Jonathan met Mike, Mike met Jeremy, Jeremy met Alex. We found our newest member when the NME wrongly printed the name of a different band in place of us in the gig listings (our first gig!). We looked them up and fell in love with the guitarist.

If we’re not recording or playing music you’ll find us…travelling up and down the country banging our heads on the roof of a van that smells of death.

We can’t perform unless we have…our voices, we are primarily a vocal band, though we aren’t very good at singing.

One country we’re dying to play live in is…Greenland, my parents led and expedition there in the 70′s to track down some extinct geese.

Our three dream festival headliners would be…Michael Jackson, Steve Reich (collaborating with Destiny’s Child), The Beatles.

You’ll recognise us by our…white boiler-suits and furrowed brows.

We wish we hadn’t…lost a few vital days of recording while we were making the album!

If there’s one thing we’ve learnt it’s…if it ain’t broke, kill yourself.

Give us 30 minutes and we’ll cook a great…Pesto sauce. Mickey makes something called ‘Tunch’ which is ‘between lunch and tea’, which is basically pasta with broccoli and feta cheese, he swears by it and eats it by the metric tonne.

Buy us a drink and we’ll…sing you the whole of Gangsta’s Paradise, in German.

We’re not really into Country, but we do like Conway Twitty.

Our next release is…our debut album Man Alive which comes out on the 30th of August, but before that MY KZ, UR BF comes out on the 23rd.

I grew up…in Hamilton Ontario, which is a steel town commonly referred to as, “the armpit of Ontario”, by people who don’t live there. I get pretty defensive of Hamilton because like every city, there are good and bad parts. It certainly doesn’t have as much going on as in Toronto, but at least you can find open green space if you want to sit under a tree that isn’t five feet from a major roadway.

It all started when…my dad bought me a copy of the eponymously titled Janet Jackson album, which had this really emotional song on it called, “Again”. That was one of the first songs I learned to sing.

If I’m not playing music you’ll find me…probably hanging out with my friends and listening to music, or trying to read a book. Boring stuff.

I can’t perform unless I have…my mom there, to give me an honest opinion about how it sounded.

My three dream festival headliners would be…hmmm. I guess it depends on whether I can be theoretical about it and pick people who are dead. If that were the case I’d go with Townes Van Zandt as my first pick, and from the land of the living I’d go with Neko Case and Cass McCombs.

You’ll always see me wearing…this sounds silly but I really need to have my backpack with me whenever I leave the house. You can just put so much useful stuff in it.

I wish I hadn’t…thought streaking my hair was a cool thing to do when I was in high school. Also, contrary to what my 18-year-old brain thought, lower back tattoos lose their charm pretty quickly.

If there’s one thing I’ve learnt it’s…be who you want to be and don’t compromise yourself based on the judgements of others.

Give me 10 minutes and I’ll cook a great…Quinoa tabouli salad with hummus

Buy me a drink and I’ll…drink it and then buy us both another couple of beers.

I’m not really into anything that stems from the American Idol franchise, but I do like that Kelly Clarkson song, “Since You’ve Been Gone”.

My favourite food is…I couldn’t say one in particular. It all depends on my mood or how hungry I am. If I think about it, I must really like cauliflower because it’s the food I eat the most. I like it done any which way. Raw, fried, boiled, mashed. You name it.

My favourite smell is…sun-tan lotion, but more specifically that Hawaiian Tropic stuff. I think that’s what it’s called. It smells like artificial coconut, which sounds kind of gross, but I can’t help but love the sickeningly sweet smell of the stuff.

My most recent release is…called Little Sister, but I’m going to be going back into the studio in September to do another EP. I don’t know what that one is going to be called yet.

————————————————————-

We grew up…in Whittier, California.

It all started when…James: My dad beat me, no I am just kidding. Chad: When the sperm met the egg. James: I went to school with Chad the singer and we had a science class together, then I moved away for a little while. During that period of time I realized I really wanted to start a band so I came back. We met at a park one night, usually at a place to hangout you know go drink and stuff, try not to get caught by the cops. I asked Chad to start a band and all the rest is history.

If we’re not recording or playing music you’ll find us…C: Having a beer. J: Yeah, having a beer.

We can’t perform unless we have…J: Beer.

One country we’re dying to play live in is…J: Germany, Because I’ve always wanted to visit Hamburg, I’ve heard that’s an amazing city. Plus Rammstien, fuck, I mean that’s one of the best craziest bands ever. C: Czechoslovakia.

Our three dream festival headliners would be…C: The Velvet Ground. J: David Bowie, The Beatles C: Lets throw someone else in there. A poetry reading by Edgar Allen Poe. J: And a dance off between Michael Jackson and Prince.

You’ll recognise us by our…J: Charming good looks and our moustaches.

We wish we hadn’t…J: Stayed at the Columbian Hotel. C: Yeah, wish we hadn’t stayed at the Columbian hotel. J: The elevators gave way the other night. Their internet fell through the other day. C: We had to put in a twenty dollar deposit to get an iron. J: The floors in the bathroom are disgusting it’s fucking crazy dude. It’s seen better days, let’s just say that.

If there’s one thing we’ve learnt it’s…C: Nothing.

Give us 30 minutes and we’ll cook a great…J: Beans and Sauce? C: No, we can do better then that. I can make a steak. I can make a wicked Spaghetti J: Spaghetti steak C: Spaghetti and steak.

Buy us a drink and we’ll…C: Keep asking for more. James: Yeah.

We’re not really into Metal but we do like Dio.

I grew up…in Central Pennsylvania in between a bunch of farms and colleges. So I was around a lot of hippies and rednecks. But I love mother nature and I can pee outside without a problem so I do see my experiences as a plus. I have been in Pittsburgh for a long time though and feel like I became an adult here.

It all started when…my Mom says I was dancing and singing before I could walk and talk. I had a rap group when I was 9, it didn’t last long but I have always been performing on some level. When I got to Pittsburgh in ’98, I started writing a lot more and building confidence to record.

If I’m not recording or playing music you’ll find me…working with my company Nakturnal or doing some kind of spiritual work/study or better said by my friend, “doing woo woo shit”.

I can’t perform unless I have…WATER! I drink a ton of water before, during and after.

You’ll always see me wearing…Gemstones, to help me get through the day. I usually wear jewellery or have my chakra stones in my bag. They are from the earth and carry properties that can amplify energy, transmute negativity, heal and much more.

I wish I hadn’t…only recorded two albums so far. I think of all the full notebooks I have and wish I could have recorded like 5 so far. But I’m working on it.

If there’s one thing I’ve learnt it’s…what you think about expands. Focus on what you need and want. And, the most powerful thing we have is the energy we send out into the world, so work hard to make sure it is positive, productive and meaningful.

Give me 10 minutes and I’ll cook a great…Grilled cheese and tomato soup .

Buy me a drink and I’ll…buy you a drink.

I’m not really into Heavy Metal but I do like Metallica.

My favourite food is…Mac n Cheese, pickles, olives and tabbouleh.

My favourite smell is…Nag Champa.

My next release will be a video for the song on my album called Godette within the next few days and a single called ‘I Insist’. I am constantly recording at this point.

————————————————————-

I grew up…in South East London and later moved the Worcester in the midlands in my early teens. The move was a culture shock to say the least. I still don’t feel like a ‘grown up’, I think its a continuous and interesting process.

It all started when…I watched The Fresh Prince and discovered Boyz II Men!

If I’m not playing music you’ll find me…doing the robot and dreaming about jumpsuits.

I can’t perform unless I have…a bowl of pink M&M’s, ten white fluffy puppies, rose scented candles, a red carpet and a unicorn….NOT! The only reason I can’t sing is if I’m sleeping and even then I’m probably dreaming about it.

My three dream festival headliners would be…Montreal Jazz Festival, Glastonbury and Sonar.

You’ll always see me wearing…a smile on my face, some curly hair on my head and a jumpsuit.

I wish I hadn’t…missed the opportunity to crowd surf when we supported De La Soul at a gig recently. Oh I’m soooo gutted about that! Argh!!

If there’s one thing I’ve learnt it’s…to listen to yourself and completely respect your instinct by following it without fear.

Give me 10 minutes and I’ll cook a great…omelette!

Buy me a drink and I’ll…say thanks and drink it, but only if I know you.

I’m not really into Indie, but I do like Kings Of Leon

My favourite food is…food that is good for the mind, body and soul…that includes chocolate of the Green & Blacks variety. Yes that is very good!

My favourite smell is…my grandparent’s house, it smells like home.

My next release will be…a track called A Town Called Obsolete which will be released on the 26th of July 2010 on Ninja Tune Records before my debut album called ‘Lost Where I Belong’ drops in August.

————————————————————-

We grew up…flung across 3 corners of the US of A. Matt in Boston, Rachael in the OC and Josh in Chicago.

It all started when…Rachael admitted to us that she was secretly obsessed with the Pointer Sisters.

If we’re not recording or playlist music you’ll find us…out in LA getting into trouble.

We can’t perform unless we have…kids ready to get down and a bottle of vodka.

One country we’re dying to play live in is…Jamaica. It’s a musician’s country, if the crowd respects you there, you’re the real deal.

Our dream festival headliners would be…Underworld, Daft Punk and The KLF.

You’ll recognise us by our…awesome dance moves.

We wish we hadn’t…checked-in our Moog synthesizer on the way to Paris…the extra peanuts they gave us as a consolation for losing it just aren’t the same.

If there’s one thing we’ve learnt it’s…take advantage of the free drinks before our set cos you’ll never find that guy with the drinks tickets again.

Give us 30 minutes and we’ll cook a great…Lebanese stuffed zucchini by Rachael.

Buy us a drink and we’ll…give you a high 5!

We’re not really into gangsta rap but we do like Justin Bieber.

Our latest release is…In It Together out on LIFEX Recordings available from 7th June.

It all started when…I started singing along to Disney movies when I was a baby. The official moment was watching Gene Kelly do ‘Singing in the Rain’, copying him and sounding like a jazz women.

If I’m not playing music you’ll find me…drinking in Soho, drinking over-priced coffee in Soho or walking home from the gym in horrible clothes with a bright pink face.

I can’t perform unless I have…retouched my hair about 40 times in the mirror.

My three dream festival headliners would be…Amy Winehouse, The Beatles and The Marvelettes.

We grew up…wearing black baggy trousers, dark eye make-up and listening to Marilyn Manson.

It all started when…I took my first job in a boring office and my head nearly exploded through sheer boredom.

If we’re not recording or playing music you’ll find us…You won’t find us. We’ll be playing an epic round of hide and seek in the woods.

We can’t perform unless we have…a kiss on the cheek from Mummy.

One country we’re dying to play live in is…India, of the romanticised mystical variety, not the terrorist ridden one.

Our three dream festival headliners would be…Pink Floyd, Depeche Mode, the Beatles.

You’ll recognise us by our…bizarre gait and the clatter of artificial limbs.

We wish we hadn’t…been involved in the great white shark attack of 2005.

If there’s one thing we’ve learnt it’s…don’t play with sharks.

Give us 30 minutes and we’ll cook a great…shark burger with a juicy, hot salsa relish.

Buy us a drink and we’ll…start singing somalian zulu chants and initiate you into the SZO (Somalian Zulu Organisation).

We’re not really into television, but we do like the Sesame Street theme tune.

Our latest/next release is… our debut “Out of time” was released in March, and we have just finished our next single “Cold”; date soon to be announced on our MySpace www.myspace.com/newislands
