Computer Club & Frankmusik
Have to be honest here. Loved Frankmusik’s take on pop music, turning the genre on its head with really strong vocals talents and a clear understanding of all his instruments not to mention his production skills.
That was until he signed to a major label. And it all just got a bit Kylie Minogue.
In Step and 3 Little Words (pre-signing to a major label) were some of my favourite pop-crossover tracks that year and it all seemed to be going so well for the boy until I witnessed the music video for the latter.
Doctors said it was a miracle that I survived the 6-storey fall after I dived out of the window as a result of watching 30 seconds of the video.
Anyway, the singles to follow were Confusion Girl and Better Off As Two and I’m not even going to criticise them but I will say this, they almost stooped as low as Just Jack, but nothing can stoop quite as low as that.
Now this isn’t just a post to slag off Frankmusik because he’s just collaborated with Computer Club on a new track called Losing Streak and this Ladies and Gentlemen could be path to the long road of redemption.
Essentially, Computer Club could save his career and more than anything, show the US audience what Frankmusik’s supposed to sound like!
It’s a wicked track -- chimes Mahogany’s pop bells and we’re treated with a single version as well as an edgier electro version.

As for Computer Club -- check out his MySpace -- the LA based producer have got some proper floor fillers up his sleeves
Were we too harsh -- we don’t think so!
Diamond Chemistry

Let’s start the day with two remixes.
Firstly, Radioproof have made Marina & The Diamonds’ latest single Hollywood enjoyable with a gentle electro-tinged sound. Not keen on the original but I like this one.

Next up is Adam Freeland’s neon-clad electro-pop remix of The Chemists’ latest single, This City. The boys from Bristol are on tour with Fun Lovin’ Criminals at the moment (that would have to be fun). The remix is definitely a far pace away from the punchy rock original which you can check out on their MySpace.

Gin & Jeuce
The aptly named Juece boys from ‘Up North’ have just completed their latest works.
Now I don’t make music or play any instruments (yet) but artists/producers must feel a certain pressure to deliver when a label with such a strong background as Southern Friend officially drafts them to rework a single.
Juece were given Crookers’ reworking of Miike Snow’s In Search Of and we think they deserve a big pat on the back.

Donut
I’m not (usually) massively keen on mash-ups from an EP release but Living The Dream Records have comprised what could honestly (almost) be thrown down as an original single mix.
Combining the Radio and Single Edits with remixes from Boy 8-Bit, Logistics, Gui Boratto, Ben Hoo and James Talk, they’ve created a tasty minimal medley.
As the track progresses and merges into another, the tempo raises and it culminates in the Drum and Bass remix by Logistics.
Dandy.

Briefly…

Got a couple of remixes that have dropped into the inbox today so I’ll quickly put them up because I absolutely love both of them.
First up…
This Passion Pit remix has got slight tints of UK garage tint to it – remix is absolutely bang on the money.

Secondly…
Remix aficionado Alan Wilkis does Yeasayer’s first single off the new album justice.

Oh Gosh Goulding
I know what you must be thinking: “Oh dear, yet another post about Ellie Goulding”.
The buzz surrounding the 23-year-old Welsh singer has been quite intense for a few months; her scintillating blonde locks splashed across music sections of various newspapers and magazines, and snippets of her songs heard as far as in Celebrity Big Brother… But in my opinion, Ellie Goulding deserves the attention.
The year 2009 was marked by brilliant full-on synthpop (La Roux), crystal-breaking voices (Florence + The Machine), and shameless near-eurotrash pop (Lady GaGa), so it’s no surprise Goulding’s haunting voice and soft folktronica arrangements found their very own delicate shelter with fans in a Niagara-esque music market.
Ellie’s worked hard to get where she is, and her gig at Cargo in London last month was a treat. Her next single, Starry Eyed, will be released sometime in February, and the debut album Lights is scheduled for March. Can’t bloody wait.
I’m DJ-ing at a night called Other People’s Property at the end of the month and I might play the Jakwob Remix of Under The Sheets!
