Engine-Earz Experiment

Taking experimental dance onto the live stage is the future.
The BBC are doing some serious cut-backs in the next couple of years and we’re losing some incredible stations which could almost be called musical institutions and 1xtra has been mentioned however I’m not sure if that will be getting the cut as well.
If it does -- we’ll be losing a vital platform for urban music -- and incredible showcases like this by Engine-Earz Experiment could be lost!
Engine-EarZ Experiment -- Reach You ft. Lena Cullen (She Is Danger)
PR spiel: Engine-Earz Experiment is a collective of musicians headed by the one and only Prashant Misty and just to whet the appetite -- collaboration wise -- the debut album looks set to include the likes of Dead Can Dance’s Lisa Gerrard (you may know her best as the voice of the death scene in Ridley Scott’s ‘Gladiator’), the rather amazing, ethereal Katie Havnevik, UK artist Get Cape, Wear Cape Fly, and Lena Cullen from everyone’s favorite female dubdy pioneers She is Danger!

Breakage Your Face
Florence is on top of the world at the moment -- one of our first ever posts saw the fiery redhead perform for Steve Lamacq and since then she’s gone from strength to strength to strength.
We heard Breakage’s remix a while back but didn’t want to post anything unless it was at the highest quality so here it is.
Breakage’s seemingly simple yet aggresive approach to this remix builds and builds without digressing from too much from the original arrangement but still adding a much-needed punch in the face.
As for Breakage himself -- the long awaited debut album, Foundation, will see another dubstep aficionado break through into the big spotlight.

Stylo Gets Twisted

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed The Guardian’s exclusive preview of Gorillaz’ new album. It’s a good progession and to be honest, I didn’t even really listen to them before as fully fledged ‘group’. It was more the singles and concepts that I enjoyed.
CraigMak’s latest work is in the form of a Stylo remix and from what we’ve heard so far, it’s one of our favourites.
Speaking of Gorillaz, they’re planning to do live shows this year -- I hope they’re accompanied by as many of the album guests and humanly possible. The façade of seeing characters on a screen wears off after the first tune. I’m optimistic that they won’t disappoint.

Headlock
Received a lot of filth this week so without further adieu here’s some more.
Esser’s Headlock has been given a complex reworking by the Midnight Conspiracy men and we like it. Alot.
It’s short and sweet at just under 4 minutes but doesn’t waste any time – still features the quirky audio samples from the original and I’d love to be the person dropping this at 3.15am in a stinky and sweaty club.

Lovely.
Urbané Transformation

We’ve got some big tracks this morning – all of which have been transformed one way or another.
First up is a the new effort from DJ E whose mashup with The xx and Mims reminds me of the hugely popular Tupac and Biggie remix that we featured last year. The xx create the perfect backdrop for a really good effort despite my dislike for Mims.

Next up is another artist who I wouldn’t dream of listening to unless it was treated with some heavy beats to mask the lyrical soppiness. Luckily Maximus Baxter have injected some life into McLean’s latest single.

Let’s finish with one of the biggest mash-ups of 2009. It’s very nearly perfect.

Around The World…
We receive a ton of music from a huge array of artists all the time and we always feature what really grabs our attention.
The nice thing in many cases is that there is very little information about the artist/producer provided so there’s no space to make judgements – it’s the purest form of digestion and the best way to listen to new music. Reading a biography, looking at press shots or their homepage can dilute (if only slightly) judgments and opinions.
Mr Fogg dropped us his new single this week which has been remixed by the dubstep man of the hour Jakwob. It’s a beautifully leftfield and alternative dubstep remix and I’m about to go and listen to more Fogg!

Anyone who gets the hot air balloon reference?
