We’re not big fans of modern-day cheesy R&B although Usher’s Confessions is an exception and sits safely in our music collection. Give us Nat King Cole (above) or Otis Redding over Chris Brown any day!

The labels however have realised that they need remixes to gain some extra online presence and if the usual R&B stuff is refixed and reworked, it’s been known for Mahogany HQ to be quite susceptible.

We featured Mclean before when Maximus/Baxter laid down their remix of My Name and now another big package of remixes have arrived in conjunction with his latest single, Finally In Love.

Here are our picks from the bunch. The first of which has got a really nice old school garage vibe to it, whilst the second is a typical dubstep remix and the third is just pure unadulterated club cheese.

Have to be honest, Foals album didn’t make waves with me upon first listen but after a good few back-to-back plays, it’s become a true musical treasure of 2010.

As for the remixes that churn out, be them official or bootleg, it’s something we’ve been keeping a close eye on and we’ve got our hands on a Mahogany exclusive this week from Leeds producer BangaTang.

BangaTang has been a choice cut for Kissy Sell Out and The Temper Trap and Foals have recruited his talents for their eerie Spanish Sahara song.

Bank holiday Monday has been spent doing absolutely nothing but listen to music.

Stumbled across this dubstep remix of the latest Fenech-Soler single by a man called GZUS who kindly dropped it over to us about 30 minutes ago and we’re not going to waste any time so here it is.

We’ve featured DJ E before with his mashup of The xx vs. Mims and we liked it. The original track by The xx is stunning so there’s a chance we’d even like it if Britney Spears laid her abysmal vocals all over it but nonetheless we still enjoyed DJ E’s effort and still do.

He’s just dropped us his new one and it’s a mash-up of the most popular song and post ever on Mahogany which continues to take a barrage of comments from all over the world on a daily basis. The post alone has had over 60,000k hits and is growing on an average of 500 hits per day!!

This mashup consists of Mt Eden Dubstep’s Sierra Leone and rapper Wiz Khalifa’s Say Yes and I think it’s safe to say that a fair few of you will be interested in hearing it.

We like DYM aka Damn You Mongolians (he’s not a racist, it’s from South Park!). He’s a UK based producer with an original sound. The word dubstep has become so vast and a lot of shit gets slapped with the label.

We’re currently in the earlish stages of evolution for the genre and I like to think that DYM is one of the tadpoles spouting tiny legs. I’m not saying that all these little creatures will all survive. But it’s a start.

Florence is on top of the world at the moment -- one of our first ever posts saw the fiery redhead perform for Steve Lamacq and since then she’s gone from strength to strength to strength.

We heard Breakage’s remix a while back but didn’t want to post anything unless it was at the highest quality so here it is.

Breakage’s seemingly simple yet aggresive approach to this remix builds and builds without digressing from too much from the original arrangement but still adding a much-needed punch in the face.

As for Breakage himself -- the long awaited debut album, Foundation, will see another dubstep aficionado break through into the big spotlight.

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed The Guardian’s exclusive preview of Gorillaz’ new album. It’s a good progession and to be honest, I didn’t even really listen to them before as fully fledged ‘group’. It was more the singles and concepts that I enjoyed.

CraigMak’s latest work is in the form of a Stylo remix and from what we’ve heard so far, it’s one of our favourites.

Speaking of Gorillaz, they’re planning to do live shows this year -- I hope they’re accompanied by as many of the album guests and humanly possible. The façade of seeing characters on a screen wears off after the first tune. I’m optimistic that they won’t disappoint.

Esser’s Headlock has been given a complex reworking by the Midnight Conspiracy men and we like it. Alot.

It’s short and sweet at just under 4 minutes but doesn’t waste any time – still features the quirky audio samples from the original and I’d love to be the person dropping this at 3.15am in a stinky and sweaty club.
