I remember I saw Nathan Fake many moons ago when he supported Four Tet live somewhere in Archway. Unfortunately for Fake on that day, I was so blown away by Four Tet I didn’t take the time post gig to think about how excellent his support set had also been. Nathan Fake has been releasing his breed of experimental live techno since 2003, but it was with 2006′s Drowning In A Sea Of Love I first heard him. His productions are always beautiful even in their density, tracks like ‘The Sky Is Pink’ sonically soar as the synths grind together – quite a feat.

My personal favourite from that 2006 album is ‘You Are Here’ which is more wistful and beautiful. This remix of this track by the aforementioned Four Tet might show why they have done live shows together, their styles although quite different work beautifully together

His live shows are imaginative and hypnotising. There is always an element of live sound even with his recorded output and on stage he shines. But Fake blew back into my consciousness today with his latest album (his 3rd full LP) Steam Days has just been released. On my first listen its a strong album – tracks like ‘Paean’ and ‘Iceni Strings’ sound really vibrant.
