One of the most colourful electronic albums for 2012 has landed with us already and it comes from Matt Cutler aka Lone – a Nottingham producer who has been busy shaping a unique sound. Lone has been releasing music since 2008 – with a bold mix of influences from acid house, rave, techno, breaks, jungle and bass. Not one to use many full vocal parts, Lone uses synth melody lines and stabs to make each track sing. His latest album ‘Galaxy Garden’ has layer after layer of funked out synth sounds, snippets of vocal samples, and battering drums.

From his earlier releases, the stand out track for me has to be ‘Moon Beam Harp’ although there are dozens of strong tracks to choose from. The alto-synth on the intro and loopy sounds throughout make this track equal parts heavy, spaced out and gorgeously melodic.

On remix duties, I love Lone’e remix of Bibio’s ‘All The Flowers’. Here the original is tripled in length and the dreamy 70s guitars and vocals of the original are warped and thickened with layers of beats.
