16 year old Florida based producer XXYYXX (aka Marcel Everett) is undoubtedly the blogosphere’s flavour of the month given the amount of coverage his melancholy RnB electronica has garnered on the internet of late. However, I am not one to not write someone up if the reason they are getting all that attention is fully warranted. Everett’s music shows a maturity well beyond his 16 years. His latest self-released EP ‘Mystify’ is the third the young producer has created. His sampling of ‘Birthday Sex’ by Jeremih on this track ‘LUV U GIRL’ turns that pop-RnB slow jam into something all together dance-floor destroying.

On the track below ‘Love Isn’t Made’ has an almost speed garage 2-step influence, with the soft girlish vocals from Steffaloo proving that he is just as adept with a full vocal as he is with a vocal sample.

XXYYXX’s music shows an artist who has been heavily influenced by UK producers. In more downbeat shuffling tracks like ‘Tied2U’ you can hear echoes of James Blake and Burial, but there is a trans-atlantic flavour to his work. Given his youth and relative new comer status in music scene – XXYYXX is a producer I am looking forward to watching develop.
