Monday Digest Vol. 3

Last night saw the Oscars celebrate some of finest films of the past 12 months of which George Clooney’s ‘The Descendants’ was nominated for a few. Now I personally loved that movie on a lot of different levels but it was the Hawaiian soundtrack which melted my heart – it’s just so tranquil and heartfelt and one of the artists to feature was the late Gabby Pahinui, so here’s one of his best-known songs.

17-year-old French producer Madeon released a new track, Icarus, in the early hours of last night and the disco-electronica track is a huge! You need to check how young this kid looks before hitting play on this beat!

Australian Gotye whose previous music video is close to reaching 100 milllion views on YouTube has released a new video for ‘Easy Way Out’ and it’s another visual triumph. There is however a danger of becoming an artist famed for videos instead of the music itself and looking at OK GO is a perfect example so despite loving this I’d like to see something a little more natural next time around.

Lastly we’re going to finish the music segment with a bit of a special track. Michael Kiwanuka’s classic sound harks back to a time when artists would get together whenever they could to collaborate and he’s not shying away from musical alliances. ‘Lasan’ is the first song he’s done with The Black Keys and hopefully not the last…
