Little Boots (Crazy P Remix)

Crazy P are possibly one of my favourite dance/funk collectives of all time and I’ve enjoyed almost all their musical outputs so when this Little Boots remix popped up in my inbox there was a lovely surge of excitement!
It’s been a bit quiet on the LB front when it comes to studio tracks but it seems her DJing passions are taking the reigns for a while as touches down in very enviable locations around the world on her CDJ tour.
Crazy P have taken the initiative and pumped a top quality edit whilst she’s away!

Saint Saviour came to prominence via a series of collaborations most notably with Groove Armada. She contributed 4 songs to their latest 2011 Grammy-nominated album – the critically acclaimed and commercially successful Black Light – taking on the role of front woman on the ensuing world tour. Her subsequent profile developed her growing fan base resulting in a sold out show of her own at Bush Hall and a pivotal performance at the Little Noise Sessions, with the Sunday Times stating “She has one of those extraordinary voices that somehow combines incredible precision with the sense of both imminent collapse and the possibility of a completely unanticipated vocal tangent”. Peaking Lights

As 2011 is drawing to a close, its hard not to reminisce and start thinking over the musical highlights of the year. The debut album ’936′ from husband and wife act Peaking Lights has definitely been one of 2011′s magical moments.
The album is a beautiful psychedelic trip of 1960s folk and indie with touches of dub and soul. It is truly superb. Standout tracks are ‘All The Sun That Shines’, ‘Hey Sparrow’ and ‘Birds of Paradise’ but to be honest we can’t wait to hear the whole album in full at their sold out show at London’s Plastic People on 6th December. Look out for these two in 2012…

Too Late, Too Far

CANT, the solo project from Chris Taylor of Grizzly Bear fame, have released the first official video from their storming 2011 album Dreams Come True. Experimental clattering beats, with multi-layered looping electronic hooks and flute, ‘Too Late Too Far’ is a confident track with a unique sound. The video is also fittingly leftfield – wonderful stuff.

We Were Evergreen // Mahogany Session

A cemetery is a location we’ve been itching to film in since starting our sessions but weather conditions, timings and other aspects prevented it, until just recently that is.
Parisian trio We Were Evergreen were massively keen to film the session in the East London cemetery before they headed up to Manchester to support King Charles on his UK tour so we met them early on a cold morning and they played two extremely beautiful tracks.
These three friends are now stationed in London as things start to kick off for them and what’s really great about them is that online they’ve performed dozens of sessions on various different channels and each time they play different songs which not only demonstrates a great repertoire, but shows how confident they are to play a variety of styles at such an early stage of their careers.
It was also using a brand new lens we recently acquired and the whole thing looks and sounds incredible. In fact it’s my favourite session to date!

1. Tell us a bit about the Mahogany Mix
Initially, I had no real theme for this mix per say but after listening to it quite a bit, I’d say there’s a heavy New York vibe that comes through. NY is responsible for so much great disco and funk music and I think that disco but particularly funk is always at the heart of what I do.
2. What’s your most treasured piece of studio equipment
It might seem simple but I love my MicroKorg. I say “my” but in reality it’s really my friends that I have on a kind of indefinite loan (I hope!). It’s just a fantastic machine; very diverse and easy to create great sounds from. It’s also super compact which makes is great for live shows.
3. What’s next for Jeremy Glenn?
I’m currently working on a bunch of disco edits/remixes (one of which is featured in this mix!) in addition to a first EP with my other project The MAKEOVER and working on a few remixes and collaborations here and there. Look for new collaborations with Mario Basanov and MANIK out soon.
POW! // Hannes Fischer

Berlin’s Hannes Fischer appeared here before on Mahogany under the pseudonym RLYNX for his spanking Foster the People remix and through these consistently brilliant remixes, he’s become a SoundCloud phenomenon!
His record collection is broad with a clear penchant for the urban category based on the two bootlegs below. Firstly taking on Souls of Mischief’s most famous ditty for a minimal yet bassy instrumental and secondly with Alicia Key’s Rock Wit U which flirts with the vocals in a way that sends shivers down the spine.
Souls of Mischief – 93′ til Infinity (Hannes Fischer Remix)
Alicia Keys – Rock With U (Hannes Fischer Remix)
It’s get’s even more interesting when the likes of another Hannes favourite Fleet Foxes gets the treatment for what he describes as ‘hippie indie house’ which is new to us but with production as tight as this, I’m happy to call my first child by the bloody term!
Fleet Foxes – The Shrine (Hannes Fischer Remix)
The lessor-known HeadMoov get a minimal sub-tropical reworking in the highest tech house fashion (this one might be my favourite!)
HeadMOOV – The Deep Look (Hannes Fischer Remix)
I hear you, we’ve heard the remixes – now let’s hear an original as well!
Hannes Fischer – Identify
What Hannes Fischer is doing isn’t unique, but it’s brave and confident and each track is painstakingly devised and approached. It’s a German trait to be meticulous and logical and this guy’s a prime example, which is the reason he’s the Producer of the Week and probably the Bootleg Producer of the Year!
