POW! // Maya Jane Coles

At just 23-years-old, Maya Jane Coles already has a reputation as one of the UK’s most original and exciting house producers.

In 2010 British-Japanese Maya was thrust into the mainstream by several high quality releases, particularly the dance floor favourite ‘What They Say’. However what many didn’t realise was that Maya had been writing and producing music since she was 15 and had an established reputation with many top house producers and promoters for bold innovative tracks; having released music on labels such as 2020 Vision, Dogmatik, Lo:rise, and Mobilee.

Maya’s music has much more diverse roots than just house. Cool minimal and vibrant techno sounds run through her latest tracks, along with echoes of dub, hip hop and R&B. These influences are what make her house music so infectious, but they also take centre stage in her other projects – such as with her dub alias Nocturnal Sunshine.

Along with her own music, MJC’s abilities with a remix showcase her eclectic sound. Massive Attack, Tricky, Gorillaz, and Tom Middleton are just some of the big names given a Maya Jane Coles rework. Our personal favourite is her beautiful remix of Little Dragon’s ‘Ritual Union’.
