Introducing… Cadillac

Posted on Friday, September 16, 2011 in Disco, Remixes

I booted up WordPress in order to start writing this post before even I’d even heard Cadillac which goes to show how much trust I have in the Australian label Future Classic and their acts/releases!

Firstly their remix of Miami Horror which dropped only 10 days ago and has amassed over 18k plays on SoundCloud. It’s a 7-minute  sun-drenched edit which, given the fact the sun hasn’t been seen in England for a few months now is an depressing as it is great.

Secondly is their brand new video. It’s yet to reveal who Cadillac really are (unless it actually is the 5-year-old toddler) but with vocals from Joel Bryne from Wolf & Cub, it’s a very strong single.

The ‘Cadillac EP’ is due out on October 24th.

Love Letters

Posted on Tuesday, September 13, 2011 in Rap/Hip-Hop, Remixes

Young Edits recently released his new EP featuring four exciting edits of tracks and whilst the whole thing is top work, the last edit/remix of the Kanye West song Blame Game is astonishingly good.

Young Edits is the moniker used by Australian artist Youth and his takes on some of the classics are really refreshing. Speaking about the latest EP on his SoundCloud he said “My plan with all these tracks was not just to create simple club worthy edits but to attribute a sense of artistic irony unto the track itself, bringing the ‘blues’ aspect back to rhythm & blues.

Keep an eye out for this chap, he’s going places.

Producer of the Week // Laberge

Posted on Monday, September 12, 2011 in Disco

Producer of the Week or POW! will focus on the many studio-based talents from around the globe, taking into account their work from originals to remixes to edits to blends and so forth.

First in the firing line is Laberge whose funk-inspired works have been playing out of Mahogany HQ repeatedly since first hearing him back in August and if you heard our August mixtape, you would have heard the track ‘Million Dollar Party’.

Laberge – All Night

Laberge hails from Vancouver and through his own biography he says… ‘I’ve been making music for about 3-4 years now, and only over the past 2 have I been releasing tracks, as well as offering many free ones through my SoundCloud page. Pretty much, my tracks come from my love of collecting records. Whatever the song may be, it should have a few certain instruments in the track…”

It’s easy to hear that funk, soul and motown have played an important part in Laberge’s musical life whilst new disco and cosmic sounds also play a key part in his productions, especially in his remixes.

Etienne de Crecy – Relax (Laberge remix)

Keadz – Le Desir (Laberge Remix)

Samples play a big part of his productions which points toward a vast collection of great records on the shelfs and in boxes at home and fans can enjoy almost all of his tracks as free downloads via his SoundCloud page (link below).

New Trophy Wife

Posted on Monday, September 12, 2011 in Alternative, Video

Ahead of the release of their new EP, Trophy Wife have released some music to get us ready in the form of a new video and streamable track on their SoundCloud.

Firstly is Canopy Shade, the opening track to the ‘Bruxism’ EP and produced in collaboration with the band’s longstanding musical heroes, Plaid. The track blends their acoustic origins whilst being carried by a nice and light electronic backdrop.

Trophy Wife – Canopy Shade

Secondly is Wolf which continues their trend of artistic music videos and is not only produced by Foals frontman Yannis Philippakis but the video is directed by the man as well.

Trophy Wife – Wolf

To get a taste for their stripped back acoustic sound, watch our exclusive session with them from back in February.

GZUS!

Posted on Monday, September 12, 2011 in Electronica

GZUS just sent through his new track via the Mahogany Facebook page and it instantly hit a good spot for me.

It’s his take or edit on the popular Burial tune and speaking about the track on his SoundCloud he said “I know these samples have been used, and yes.. Burial is an amazing producer but, I really wanted to try my own thing with the same samples and give a different genre a go!”

It’s a fresh reworking and here’s a virtual pat-on-the-back for him.

9/11

Posted on Sunday, September 11, 2011 in Video

As the world reflects on the tragedies that took place 10 years ago and the subsequent changes as a result, here are three songs that personally help to soothe my soul and could very possibly soothe yours as well.

Bird York – In The Deep

James Vincent McMorrow – If I Had A Boat

Anthony and the Johnsons – Hope There’s Someone
