Killa Kela & Eklips Premier + Mahogany Session Song Vote!!

Posted on Thursday, September 29, 2011 in Mahogany Sessions ©, News

We’re back in full session swing after a month break and we want to begin getting YOU more involved in the whole process.

You know the format by now, each band/act perform two songs for us and we’re going to occasionally introduce a voting system to allow you to decide the second track they’ll play.

First up is UK beatbox legend Killa Kela and French beatbox extraordinar Eklips as they combine forces for what can only be an unforgettable session!

As well as a track from their forthcoming collaborative EP, the guys are going to perform a very special cover and it’s up to YOU to decide what track that is and you can do so below.

VOTING CLOSED (Winner: Swedish House Mafia)

As for these partners in beatbox crime, the Crowd Control EP is to be released shortly and below is an exclusive premier sampler for you to have a listen to!

Posted on Thursday, September 29, 2011 in Covers

No it’s not something that I want you to visualise, but instead Alex Clare has concentrated his powers on covering an Etta James classic.

Well done that boy.

Hold My Breath

Posted on Thursday, September 29, 2011 in Electronica, Video

Hold My Breath isn’t  a new track for any Holy Ghost! fan but it’s a favourite during their live shows and often serves as the encore track so they’ve decided to release it as a single alongside remixes from Tiger & Woods, Falty DL and Cosmic Kids.

The release comes out October 17th and they’ve also released an official music video with footage from the many gigs around the globe, shot Director Ben Fries.

Holy Ghost – Hold My Breath ft. Wolfram

Now this remix doesn’t feature on the release but it’s more than half decent.

POW! // Rayko

Posted on Thursday, September 29, 2011 in Disco, Producer of the Week

Rayko isn’t a difficult artist to pigeon-hole, at this moment in time at least. He’s a classic man with a mean penchant for creating gorgeous edits of old school disco, funk and boogie tracks and given the huge back catalogue of music to choose from – it’s one of the best audible playgrounds around.

Rayko’s edits inject a colourful dose of life back into songs that may be getting dusty in your old vinyl collection, or even your parents…

The O’Jays – Put Our Heads Together (Rayko Club Edit)

D Train – Keep Giving Me Love (Rayko edit)

Born in the Canary Islands, he launched his own label, Rare Wiri back in 2008 and soon after it’s roster boasted producers like Beat Fanatic, Phoreski, Ilya Santana, Marbeya Sound as well as housing Rayko’s impressively expanding portfolio of lost gems and classics.

Bananarama – Cruel Summer (Rayko Edit)

Hall and Oates – Out of Touch (Rayko Dragon Soul Edit)

As a DJ, Rayko continues to drop his sounds at hundreds of clubs around the world and if you happen to reside in any of the below, try and check him out…

07 Oct – Nu Spirit (Bratislava)
15 Oct – Voyage Voyage (Berlin)
21 oct – Demode (Madrid)

New Navy – Uluwatu

Posted on Wednesday, September 28, 2011 in Alternative, Pop/Rock

As they release their debut EP, I sense a long-lasting relationship between New Navy and I.

Having already thoroughly enjoyed the first taste, Zimbabwe, the full release of Uluwatu online is an absolute joy to listen to and Topiacoa, the free giveaway, is the best present I’ve had in ages.

As the sun makes a rare appearance in London this week, Uluwatu is the perfect soundtrack for it.

In The Mix(tape) – Soul Clap @ Movement 2011

Posted on Tuesday, September 27, 2011 in In The Mix(tape) ©

Soul Clap dropped this beast of a set at Movement in Detroit at the Red Bull stage.

I’ve never heard of Movement before but the 2011 lineup looked huge. Carl Craig, Com Truise, Dam-Funk, Daedelus, Felix Da Housecat, Flying Lotus, Little Dragon and loads more featured – full list via the Wikipedia page.

Anyway here’s the mix, there’s no tracklisting so you’re going to have to trust us!

Drive

Posted on Monday, September 26, 2011 in Soundtracks

I watched Drive last night after a cheeky DVD screener appeared online and it’s a cinematic treat. This isn’t a movie review site so head over to Empire to get a full scope of the film itself. This post is all about the gorgeous soundtrack.

The film has a certain camp look-and-feel to it; from the bright pink typography on the posters and the film, through to the Ryan Gosling’s shy and sometimes cute character, so the music had to be fitting and here are two songs that sit with the movie like peanut butter and raspberry jam…

Kavinsky – Nightcall (feat. Lovefoxxx)

Never heard of College until last night and bloody glad that I did!
