Speechless.

Magistrates Reform!
Some good news in the musical world this week.
The last time we heard from Magistrates they said this “Magistrates is over, thanks for everything, we will all be working on other musical projects, we’ll let you know more news in the new year. I’m sure we will meet again.”
The boys seem to have come to their senses as they’re back with an upcoming gig at the Old Queens Head in Islington and new music to follow.
Check their Facebook for more info.

Keep Calm and Carry On
There’s a welcomed silence on the streets of the UK toward the end of this week as the rioters settle down with their freshly stolen video games, brand new mobile phones and hoards of scavenged basmati rice (?!).
For all those not in the streets – here’s some of the music we’ve been listening to over the past few days.
The 2 Bears – Bear Hug (Maxxi Soundsystem Remix)
Big bass remix from Maxxi which adds a wicked level to an already spanking 2 Bears tune.
Maricopa – Mane
This one soars like an eagle. Progresses beautifully and enhanced our chill-out evening last night.
Midnight Missy – Midas Dutch (Jay.Soul Blend)
Jay.Soul’s blend of Midas Touch and Pass That Dutch features on our August mix for a very good reason.
Daft Punk – Something About Us (Laberge Edit)
Daft Punk have been mashed, edited, remixed and re-rendered. The more the merrier as long as the quality is as high as Laberge’s.
Flume

We’ve had quiet a few Australian acts on in recent and we’ve got another one for you who has just released his next track.
Seriously. Lovely. Electronic. Bliss.

Michael Kiwanuka // Mahogany Session (Festival Edition)

follow us on Instagram @themahoganysessions
We feel a real connection to Lounge on the Farm festival in Kent (UK). It was the first festival we’d ever filmed at during the first month of our existence last year and we think we’ve come a very long way since then.
It was in July then that we returned and our session line-up gave us goosebumps.
Jamie Woon was the first session to go live (click here to see them) and still to come are Marcus Foster, Leah Mason, Kyla la Grange, Melody Melodica and Me.
Before that however, one of the most exciting artists to emerge over the past year is Michael Kiwanuka and we found a beautifully quiet blackberry field where he performed two tracks for us.

Win Rizlab Tickets to see Jamie xx [COMP]

We’ve got our hands on some tickets for next week’s huge Rizla event, Rizlab featuring a four hour set from the one and only Jamie xx.
The event, powered by Rizla but curated by industry moguls Stephen Bass (Moshi Moshi records founder) and Tom Baker (Eat Your Own Ears) will see Jamie xx team up with sound and visualisation artist Quayola (below) to create a stunning 4-hour show on the backdrop of some breathtaking synchronised visuals.

We’re giving away pairs of tickets for the event and you can get your hands on them very easily.
Just head to our Facebook page and Like AND Comment the Jamie xx competition post (from Tuesday) which looks like the screenshot below and we’ll pick winners at random early next week.

Remember you have to be 18 years of age or older and be able to get to Central London (UK!) for the event.
Mahogany Minute & Session with Wakey! Wakey!
I grew up… underneath a grand piano that my mom taught lessons on. It was a very musical household, so by the time I was five she was teaching me.
Now you can find me in… Brooklyn. Or on tour. We seem to tour a lot right now. And I love it.
It all started when… I was spotted playing at an open mic. I wasn’t planning to play, but there was a beautiful girl there, and I needed to have an in to talk to her. She turned out to be a writer for the TV show One Tree Hill, and one thing led to another (professionally I mean, she was engaged), and the next thing I knew I was playing a role on the show!
If I’m not in the studio or on stage, you’ll find me… eating something really great. I love great meals, and NYC has a ton of places to get them. I also go to the gym a lot. They play some songs from my album there which is kind of weird, but it’s cool to look around and see people jamming to it.
I can’t perform unless I have… time to warm up and stretch. We used to do shots of whiskey, but now we’re a lot more healthy. We’re into the whole longevity thing.
If I could take one CD with me on holiday it would be… my iPhone. Cause I don’t have a CD player anymore. I’m listening to Beyonce while I type this. Bet you didn’t expect that. I also love Dolly Parton, Phil Collins, and Lil Wayne. I’d make a mix CD cause I’m way too bipolar for just one CD.
The one gig I’ll never forget… is the one I’m about to do. I’m about to walk onstage in front of like 5000 people right now in Germany. For shows that we’ve headlined, our second show ever in London at the Relentless Garage was legendary. It was way sold out, and us and the audience were just on the same page, and there to party. Any time we play the Bowery Ballroom in NYC is amazing as well.
I’m not really into Country music, but I do like Dolly Parton.
I wish I hadn’t… waited so long to travel outside of america. But I’m really happy to get to see so much now, and meet so many great people.
My most treasured possession is… my Nord stage piano. I have to play every day or I lose my mind.
My favourite festival is… Hurricane because that’s the last one we’ve played and it was great. Festivals are fun for bands because there are these crazy artist lounges and they turn into big artist playpens. Once you’re done playing all bets are off.
My favourite piece of clothing… is my new jumper by Sibling. Those guys are really talented and I’m a huge fan of their work. Good people, too.
It makes me happy when… I’m on stage. It’s like surfing. You ride this huge wave of energy with the audience. When it’s good it’s like a perfect first date, and you replay it in your head and think about it all the way home.
It makes me sad when… a tour ends. After a few days I’m just going insane. It’s amazing to have so many wonderful fans, and I love the adventure of the road.
If there’s one thing I’ve learnt it’s… that I don’t really know anything. And that’s ok.
If you’re new to my music, I’d suggest listening to Light Outside first. But I’d also recommend treating the album like a film. Don’t just watch one scene. Listen through from the beginning til the end. It’s a story. A letter.
My most recent release is… Almost Everything I Wish I’d Said The Last Time I Saw You.
