There’s currently a gang of incredibly talented young musicians taking over London and New York – taking each city by storm each time they pass through.

Some members include Marques Toliver, Lauren Pritchard and Willy Mason but a new shining member is Lianne La Havas.

The 21-year-old has just signed to the prestigious Warner Music and over the next 12 months we’ll be hearing a lot more from her including an album and more.

We’ve got two live videos below taken from a recent gig at the Slaughtered Lamb below so have a watch and a listen!

Power To The People Playlist (Pt. 2)

Posted on Tuesday, August 30, 2011 in Playlists

This has been such a fun project so far and the submissions on our Facebook page have been great.

In case you missed it, this mini-series puts Mahogany followers in the driving seat and all submissions we got are to be included here across 3 posts.

Without further ado, here is Part duex!

——————————————————————————–

Dennis // Fenech-Soler – Stop and Stare

We’re massive fans of Fenech-Soler and grew even fonder of the boys after their stripped back Mahogany session. Stop and Stare was one of their first ever videos on YouTube (which ultimately led to their signing to Warner Music) and one of our favourites.

Jonathan // The Temper Trap – Science of Fear (Mistabishi Remix)

The remix packages to emerge (both official and bootleg) from The Temper Trap’s first album were incredibly strong and this drum and bass remix packs a serious bit of spice.

Hanna // Land of The Giants – Love Me If You Dare

Thanks to Hanna for a submitting this. These lads from the South West are completely new to me and all I want to do now is go and see them live! The percussion has hints of Fat Fred’s as well.

Tranisha // Different Cloth ft. Saint Saviour – Bitter Song

Modern male jazz singer teams up with one of the UK’s most exciting female singers!

Jo // The O’Jays – Put Our Heads Together

Absolutely classic O’Jays track and massively refreshing to hear it again. It’s so clear to hear how modern producers have been influenced by this kind of stuff.

Gerald // Mos Def – Umi Says (Zero 7 Remix)

Zero 7 take on a Mos Def classic. Have to be honest and say it’s the first time we’ve heard this little gem!

Anna // Fleet Foxes – Mykonos (Live at Abbey Road)

From their 2008 debut album, Mykonos is a truly beautiful song and this live version from the historical Abbey Road studios is breathtaking.

Lauren // Stephen Marley ft. Melanie Fiona – No Cigerette Smoke (In My Room)

One of our favourite Marley boys whose popular single with the soulful vocals of Melanie Fiona is perfectly timed just after the Notting Hill Carnival in London.

Julie // Gotye – Somebody That I Used To Know ft. Kimbra

What a great discovery. Julie submitted Belgian artist Gotye featuring Kiwi artist Kimbra. The stop-motion video was directed by Natasha Pincus and has amassed over 3 million views in just one month!

Samuel // Owl City – Fireflies (Etubbs and Trillbass Insomniac Remix)

Etubbs and Trillbass take the incredibly nauseating Owl City track to a new destination. It’s definitely an improvement!

Joshua Radin // Mahogany Session

Posted on Tuesday, August 30, 2011 in Mahogany Sessions ©

The Rock And The Tide is the title of Joshua Radin’s most recent album and after thoroughly enjoying the record earlier this year we were all really excited to have him join us for a session.

It was the exclusive Martini Library in Central London where we met with Mr Radin and his good friend Brandon who performed two acoustic tracks, one of which was Streetlight and the other was a track exclusive to the UK album version called I Missed You.

You can buy the album via iTunes here and all tour information can be found here.

Florence + The Machine (Remixed)

Posted on Saturday, August 27, 2011 in Dubstep, Electronica, Remixes

As the new Florence album draws closer to it’s release, US producer Revolvr was inspired to wrap his own sound round Mark Knights impressive original remix.

Here’s what he had to say about it – “I heard Mark Knight’s remix of this on a plane back from a trip and got inspired to do a chill dubstep translation of it. A bit of a different approach than my other stuff, hope you enjoy it!”

Wretch 32 // Mahogany Session

Posted on Thursday, August 25, 2011 in Mahogany Sessions ©

The market for grime music in the UK is huge, however the market for grime artists who innovate and break away from the cliche productions and trademark attitude is even bigger, which is exactly the reason why Wretch 32 is currently sitting comfortably at No. 1 in the UK singles chart.

The 26-year-old rapper from riot-torn Tottenham has climbed the ranks since first appearing on the scene back in 2006 and his full length debut album, Black and White was released this week.

We met with the friendly and humble rapper alongside Josh Kumra as they performed Don’t Go for yours truly, the Mahogany Sessions.

Bon Iver (Remixed)

Posted on Wednesday, August 24, 2011 in Remixes

You’ve always got to be careful when remixing or covering Bon Iver. Many of fans (including us) consider their music to be somewhat sacred so fiddling about with their songs needs to be done with care.

It’s been done before on Skinny Love with the Das Kapital Rerub and we just received a remix of Perth from the latest album by Ritual & Enkay.

It’s subtle with the sampling and we like it a lot – download it for free below..
