In The Mix(tape) – Xinobi

Posted on Wednesday, February 16, 2011 in In The Mix(tape) ©

Xinobi caught our attention with his remix of Russ Chimes’ Targa and since then we’ve been avid followers (albeit on SoundCloud).

His latest his mixtape has no tracklisting as yet but we’re half way through it and it’s full of goodies including an introductory soundbite that is as smooth as caramel (we think it’s Andre 3000).

All these tunes highlight the need for me to live in a country where it’s warm and sunny all year round.

Locomotive

Posted on Tuesday, February 15, 2011 in Electro/Dance, Remixes

Alex Winston’s voice sends the occasional shiver down one’s spine and she’s another female singer who takes rather nicely to remixes.

Jaybird has remixed her latest single and she’s kind enough to be giving it away to you lovely people.

The single echoes Kate Bush in a few ways and we love it.

Fenech-Soler // Mahogany Session (Updated)

Posted on Friday, February 11, 2011 in Mahogany Sessions ©

Fenech-Soler have been on our map since watching their storming showcase performance in SXSW last year. Since then they’ve toured extensively in support of their debut album, Battlefields and in the run up to their Radio 1 Live Lounge session, we caught up with them for a stripped back version of their latest single Demons.

We’ve had to album on a lot since it came out, Demons being one of our favourites and it was an amazing to hear how good this almost-fully acoustic version sounds.

(As promised and in order of performance, here´s the second song, Contender…)

In The Mix(tape) – Mighty Mouse #2

Posted on Tuesday, February 8, 2011 in In The Mix(tape) ©

Mighty Mouse have supplied us with hours of joy with their many mixes and their latest works have just started playing on the commute home.

So far it’s been perfect for the near-empty Overground train that’s churning through West London and it’s even more intriguing without a tracklisting to hand (will add to this post before publishing).

The title of this particular mix/podcast is Future Music Festival so the title was more than enough information to go on!

Litszomania (Broasis Re-edit)

Posted on Tuesday, February 8, 2011 in Electronica, Remixes

Looks like Broasis couldn’t resist turning up the BMP and adding a little spice of his own on Shook’s well-known Phoenix remix and it’s turned out pretty damn well.

Who better to describe than Broasis himself….

I thought the shook remix was great, but I played it one day at 126 bpm and I knew it had to be done. I slapped some new drums in there, beefed it up a bit, and added lots of little odds and ends (sweeps, cymbals, filters, eq, panning etc). I also changed the arrangement a bit.

Mahogany Minute with David’s Lyre

Posted on Friday, February 4, 2011 in Mahogany Minute ©

I grew up…in London. West is best.

Now you can find me in…London still. I had a whirlwind romance with Manchester, which was lovely, but I’m now back in the big smoke.

It all started when…I was forced to learn violin at the tender age of 5.

If I’m not in the studio or on stage, you’ll find me…watching grand designs. Or cooking a feast. Or having port and cheese with friends.

I can’t perform unless I have…a rave to Phil Collins followed by at least 5 minutes of solitary confinement.

If I could take one CD with me on holiday it would be…Lauryn Hill –  The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. Either that or Marvin Gaye – What’s Going On. Close call.

The one gig I’ll never forget…The Maccabees Reading ’08. I couldn’t get over Orlando’s voice. Still can’t. It was also the biggest gigs they had played at the time which felt pretty special.

I wish I hadn’t…overwatered my tomato plants that I have been trying to grow out of season. I didn’t know you can drown plants… now I do.

My most treasured possession is…nothing really. I try not to attach too much sentimental value to any objects. People are much more interesting.

My favourite festival is…Glastonbury, even though I have never been, I just know it is. Lame but true.

My favourite piece of clothing…changes from month to month. At the moment a dusty pink/peach shirt. Very nice.

It makes me happy when…I feel productive.

It makes me sad when…people try and claw their way up by pushing other people down.

If there’s one thing I’ve learnt it’s…try and eat healthily on the road, and put your trust in Berrocca effervescent tablets whenever possible.

If you’re new to my music, I’d suggest listening to ‘In Arms’ first…it sums up what David’s Lyre is about, alternative and interesting, yet approachable.

My next release will be… the ‘In Arms’ EP out February 21st on 12” vinyl and download.
