Booka Shade (Russ Chimes Remix)

Posted on Thursday, December 16, 2010 in Electro/Dance, Remixes

Good ol’ Chimes previewed this remix on his last Expressway mix and left a strong hunger to hear it in it’s entirety.

Luckily he’s just uploaded the track on his SoundCloud page.

Yum!

Every Love That Ever Was

Posted on Thursday, December 16, 2010 in Electronica, Remixes

Last time we featured Bachelors of Science was when they sent us their stunning remix work on one of The xx’s tunes.

They’re back now with a slightly different sound yet still rich in texture and full-bodied.

Home Video have been reworked with a warm summery feeling and sounds (at times) like an Ibizan Radiohead track which is, as strange as it sounds, a compliment.

Listen and download below!

Wye Oak

Posted on Wednesday, December 15, 2010 in Alternative

We’ve got a really lovely track to giveaway today, from a Baltimore duo called Wye Oak.

Hadn’t heard of this pair until now and very happy to have done – played it back to back about 7 times which is always a good sign.

Lovely female vocals brought to the fore by a captivating build up.

In The Mix(tape) – Ben Westbeech

Posted on Tuesday, December 14, 2010 in In The Mix(tape) ©

Christmas is nearly upon us and the mince pies and Xmas shopping is taking a heavy burden on many of us.

Whilst the likes of Nat King Cole and Frank Sinatra provide that festive warmth – we need some something with a bit more edge.

Ben Westbeech’s latest mix for FACT is a dark and sensual house affair – perfect for decorating that tree of yours.

The Mahogany Sessions // Benjamin Francis Leftwich

Posted on Tuesday, December 7, 2010 in Covers, Mahogany Sessions ©

It was only a couple of weeks ago when we first heard Ben’s upcoming single, Atlas Hands, and we thought it would be lovely to get together for a session before the year was over.

We joined him before his gig at the Electric Ballroom in Camden and the two acoustic performances he did for us are really something special.

One man and a guitar without any amps can make five men on stage seem completely inadequate.

To top it off we’ve also got his latest cover of Arcade Fire’s Rebellion which is the cherry on top.

Watch and download to your hearts content below!

Mahogany Minute with Hiatus

Posted on Wednesday, December 1, 2010 in Mahogany Minute ©

I grew up…in Maidstone, which locals will tell you is an anagram of ‘I am stoned’. They’re usually not lying.

It all started when…I travelled to Tehran in 2005, stumbled upon my dad’s Persian record collection and began sampling the vocals and string solos that feature on the album, Ghost Notes.

If I’m not playing music you’ll find me…being thrown out of bookshops for trying to set fire to copies of Tony Blair’s autobiography.

I can’t perform unless…I have a picture of Princess Di gazing back at me from between the turntables.

My three dream festival headliners would be…Daedelus, Nathan Fake and Icicle, in that order.

You’ll always see me wearing…headphones, most likely playing white noise or music that comes dangerously close to being white noise.

I wish I hadn’t…insisted on standing so close to the speakers at raves.

If there’s one thing I’ve learnt it’s…that life is like a ball of string: at the beginning is nothing and at the end is nothing (old Persian saying).

Give me ten minutes and I’ll cook a great…magic mushroom omelette, hold the omelette.

Buy me a drink and I’ll…probably spill it all over myself with excitement.

I’m not really into house music, but I do like Paul Kalkbrenner.

My favourite food isghorm-e sabzi; it’s an Iranian lamb stew made with herbs, kidney beans and dried limes.

My favourite smell is…napalm, preferably in the morning.

My next release isSave Yourself, which is out on Lucky Thunder records on December 13th.

Fans of Bonobo will really appreciate this album, we think it’s a stunning piece of work and track 4 and track 11 are our favourites.
