It’s been quantity over quality when it comes to female solo artists of recent. Too many limp onto the scene with over produced, uninspired music – only to disappear into the musical abyss – leaving behind only an aged MySpace profile. That in tow has left a lot of people slightly jaded about ‘newbies’.
There are those who stand out despite the untalented market, and Alice Gold is one of them.
She’s definitely one to watch as we approach the New Year. Packing a hell of a lot of rhythm and soul into her unplugged performance, Alice played two tracks from her upcoming album, exclusively for Mahogany – and you can watch them below.

This particular Wing Commander remix has been sitting in our playlist since early September so some of you may have already heard it – no idea why it wasn’t posted before!
It’s a very accomplished piece of remix work which gradually builds and builds to give the listener a real sense that they’re souring through the sky (as per the release artwork).

I actually got a couple of chills down my spine when I heard this for the first time today.
Hailing from Vancouver, Brasstronaut are have got a serious sound behind them and to celebrate the release of their upcoming debut album, Mount Chimaera, they’re giving away the opening track for free.
If we did Track of the Week, this would be bang on top – it’s absolutely superb, especially toward the end as it builds into a spectacular musical explosion!
