If there’s one thing you can’t do when remixing an xx tune, it’s rush it.

Sylde knew that well before they embarked on their mini-remix project and the result is slightly splendid.

Wolf Gang

Posted on Thursday, October 7, 2010 in Alternative, Pop/Rock

Gutted to have skipped Wolf Gang a year or so ago when he/they supported Casiokids at Hoxton Bar & Grill!

There’s a brooding excitement associated with this ever so slightly mysterious character so expect to hear and see a lot more in the run up to the debut album, dropping toward the end of November.

We’re already familiar with Back To Back but now we’ve got a second taster from the album – this time it’s a slightly poppier number but retains it’s original credibility.

Looking forward to the album and a possible Mahogany Session in the not too distant future!

The Mahogany Sessions // Imelda May

Posted on Tuesday, October 5, 2010 in Mahogany Sessions ©

Rockabilly isn’t a genre that’s been covered too much by Mahogany, things they-are-a-changing however after Imelda May came down to play us a couple of unplugged renditions from her latest album, Mayhem.

We returned as well to the plush and sparkly settings of All Star Lanes in Central London where Imelda was joined by her husband and lead guitarist Darrel.

She’s a genuinely unique talent and represents a whole different aspect of the Irish music scene – a scene where the likes of The Script and U2 seem to stereotypically dominate.

Choice Notes

Posted on Friday, October 1, 2010 in Electronica, Remixes

This tune is BIG people.

Everything falls into place perfectly and I have to applaud Labyrinth Ear for such a stunning little remix as well as Alex Winston for the fantastic original.

Here’s a bit of info on Alex Winston from the press release...an artist hailing from Michigan’s ‘Rock City’ of Detroit. She’s classically trained in opera and already opened for established acts such as Chuck Berry.  Her father bought her a guitar when she was just seven years old, and they would sit in the basement for hours practicing chord progressions and listening to songwriters like Carole King and Laura Nyro.

Introducing…Delta Maid

Posted on Friday, October 1, 2010 in Mahogany Minute ©, Mahogany Sessions ©

I grew up…thanks to my endocrine system.

It all started when…I heard a copy of Rory Block’s “Best Blues and Originals”, as soon as I was introduced to Delta Blues, I knew I wanted to create music.

If I’m not playing music you’ll find me…most likely in the pub, probably talking about music…

I can’t perform unless I have…my guitar, I feel naked with out.

My three dream festival headliners would be…Dolly Parton, Stevie Wonder and The Rolling Stones – a little bit of everything.

You’ll always see me wearing…jeans, I’m a jeans girl, and also a silver necklace with some wise words of inspiration engraved on it.

I wish I hadn’t…had that last drink, why does it always seem like a good idea at the time?!

If there’s one thing I’ve learnt it’s…trust your gut. Always.

Give me 10 minutes and I’ll cook a great…steak sandwich, nice bit of cheese and onion, can’t go wrong.

Buy me a drink and I’ll…tell you the next one’s on me.

I’m not really into rap, but I do like Eminem.

My favourite food is…chips – french fries, chippy chips, homemade, on bread and butter. Chips.

My favourite smell is…burning wood, like the smell of a match once it’s gone out.

My next recent will be…early next year, first album, excited.
