The Mahogany Sessions // OK Go

Posted on Tuesday, September 28, 2010 in Mahogany Sessions ©

When it comes to viral successes, OK Go hit the nail right on the head. They’ve amassed over 90,000,000 views on their official YouTube channel and deservedly so, their elaborate videos are a spectacle to watch.

There is somewhat of an expectancy from the Chicago four-piece to continue to deliver these masterpieces however Mahogany and many other fans have been wanting to see the band in their true natural surroundings.

They joined us at All Star Lanes in Central London for a morning of milkshakes, bowling and two stripped back songs from their latest album, Of the Blue Colour of the Sky.

One thing we’ve learnt since this session;

1. OK Go are much, much more than their choreographed videos.

Cee-Lo – Fuck You (Rhythm Scholar Club Remix)download

Lots of Fuck You remixes floating about – this smooth club ditty is possibly our favourite so far.

Labrinth – Let The Sun Shine (Code Name No Name Remix) - download

The original ain’t our cup of tea but CNNN has transformed this love anthem into a floor filler.

Mumdance ft. Esser – Battle (Wookie Cover) - download

Mumdance and Esser sat in the studio with the intention of revitalising an underground dance classic. They succeeded.

Somebody To Love Me

Posted on Thursday, September 23, 2010 in Video

This is definitely one of our favourite songs from the new Mark Ronson album and they performed it in all it’s live glory on Jools Holland a week or so ago.

On this record, my main praise goes out to Ronson’s work on getting artists like Boy George and Miike Snow vocalist Andrew Wyatt together and actually making it work – god knows we’ve seen some bad collaborations in our time.

The keyboardist however needs to tone that dancing shite right down because she ruining it.

The Recluse

Posted on Wednesday, September 22, 2010 in Dubstep, Remixes

Ah remixes and remixes that are free!

Nero are one of the most in-demand producers to be booked for a single remix and god knows how much they charge for their services.

Luckily we don’t have to pay a dime – we’ll leave that to the record labels.

Anyway – the Plan B album is solid gold without any underground influences but a Nero remix is a lovely cherry on top, as was the Breakage remix of Prayin’?

Maps & Atlases

Posted on Wednesday, September 22, 2010 in Alternative, Remixes, Video

Having heard Maps & Atlases for the first time about 15 minutes ago – I’m not going to pretend that I heard them when they released their first ever demo!

No, this falls under the lovely warmth of hearing a band with a great sound for the very first time and we’ve got a free remix alongside their stylishly shot new music video.

Will definitely be seeing these guys when they’re in London in October and ever better news…we’ve just confirmed a Mahogany Session with them!
