The Mahogany Sessions // Chief

Posted on Saturday, August 28, 2010 in Alternative, Indie/Folk, Mahogany Sessions ©, Video

For us, Chief are one of the most exciting bands to emerge over the past year or so. They’re the latest Domino Records signing and definitely a big priority for the Autumn and beyond.

With Santa Monica as their hometown, Chief are representing the true musical roots of the sunshine state – no Botox involved.

The sun was shining during our session with them at Lounge on the Farm festival earlier in the summer and they performed two outstanding unplugged renditions from their upcoming album, Modern Rituals.

Chief – Mighty Proud

Carnival

Carnival preparation is in full-swing in London…chicken has no doubt widely sold out across wholesalers and Red Stripe would have seen dramatic spike in sales as stall-owners in West London stock up on the essentials.

All the intricate and colourful outfits are all being finished off but the real prep needs to come from the music right?

Greenmoney have been busy with some remixes and have just dropped them our way in time for the 2010 Notting Hill Carnival!

Bootleg #2 – Silvia (Robotberget Remix)

There was a point where so many Miike Snow remixes (both official and unofficial) were coming out that some slipped our radar.

Only now as we pay another visit to the current Snow catalogue that we find a few of the ones we missed. Hearing a sick remix so far down the line however, is a pleasure – even if we’re X months late!

This official Silvia remix is probably our favourite out the bunch. Robotberget captures, twists and amplifies Andrew Wyatt’s vocals perfectly across 8-minutes of electronic bliss.

Little Comets

Posted on Wednesday, August 25, 2010 in Indie/Rock, Video

Getting a record deal with a major label ain’t always as it good as it may sound – it definitely wasn’t for Little Comets.

I caught Little Comets play Hoxton Bar & Grill just before they got signed up by Columbia (Sony) and nothing really happened after that – well stuff happened but the expected launches didn’t and they parted ways.

Now their creative shackles are free, under a smaller and more nurturing record label and they’re currently gearing up for a proper reintroduction to the scene.

Their next single titled Isles is about to be released but we’ve got a sneak peak of a demo from the studio which is all yours to download and enjoy.

They might look like your run-of-the-mill indie band but these Northern boys possess a very original sound – pure and cheeky.

Airplanes Remixed

Posted on Friday, August 20, 2010 in Dubstep, Rap/Hip-Hop, Remixes

This is a bit of a speed-post as we’re in St. Lucia and about to head down to the beach!

Another top remix by DYM of a song played on the radio more times than I’ve had warm dinners. DYM adds his trademark sounds to give this tune a bit of ‘street cred’!

The Mahogany Sessions // David’s Lyre & Lail Arad

Posted on Wednesday, August 18, 2010 in Mahogany Sessions ©

The Mahogany Sessions are going from strength to strength! We only launched the online channel this June with the wonderful Natty and since then we’ve been joined by a host of unforgettable artists. We caught up with two exciting artists recently, the first of which has been gaining a lot of love, including praise (and play) from none other than Zane Lowe.

Keep an eye out for David’s Lyre this year and also keep an ear out for the very rude tramp who yells out right at the end of the video below!

David’s Lyre – English Roses

Lail’s quirky and referential music is complemented by the beautiful backdrop of Passing Clouds in Dalston. Lail performed one of her stand-out tracks with her guitar and kazoo atop of the bar!

Lail Arad – Everybody’s Moving To Berlin

David Lyre also performed Tear Them Down and Lail also performed Over My Head – check out the YouTube channel to watch them.
