Things I’ve Done

Posted on Wednesday, May 26, 2010 in News, Reggae & Dub, Video

When an artist has a huge following of devoted fans, it makes sense to have them directly involved in the release of their next record.

Natty has teamed up with Pledge Music, a direct-to-fan platform that gets us (the fans) directly involved in the release of a very special EP.

Speaking about the campaign, Natty said…“In the middle of recording my second album Johnny Dollar, who produced my first album, passed away. I wanted to do something in memory of him, like a gig or an event with all his music but nothing came of it. Around the same time I was thinking about releasing an acoustic demo of new songs I was writing, just for the fans. So when Pledge Music approached me to work with them it was a no-brainer; Acoustic EP for the fans to raise funds for Sarcoma sufferers. I spoke with my label, Atlantic Records and we came up with a plan for releasing the EP and an acoustic tour. Also we worked out a few extra incentives for peeps to get stuck into, hopefully we can raise a good amount of money to support the Sarcoma Research Fund at the Royal Marsden”.

It’s been two years since his debut Man Like Me was released and we couldn’t be more excited about owning brand new Natty material. If you want to own your copy of this acoustic EP as well as receive exclusive updates from the man himself, head over to the website and Pledge!

Pledgers can also get their hands on some incredible exclusive items as well -- some of which are listed below.

  • Exclusive merchandise including a ‘pledgers only’ Fair Trade Natty T-Shirt, hand written lyric sheets, personal video messages  and signed CDs
  • A chance to buy Natty’s first ever acoustic  guitar and other signed instruments
  • A personal solo performance in a fans own home.
  • A chance for fans to introduce Natty live  onstage + VIP backstage passes
  • A mention in the credits for the new EP
  • An opportunity for a fan to either remix one of Natty’s tracks and have it played out before a live show or to spend a day in the studio with Natty remixing one of their own tracks

We’ve pledged and if you’re a fan of Natty, so should you!

In the meantime, let’s enjoy some of our favourite songs from his debut, Man Like I.

Mahogany Minute – Primary 1

Posted on Tuesday, May 25, 2010 in Mahogany Minute ©

I grew up…in Ipswich, then Stavanger, then Singapore…

It all started when…I started playing drums.

If I’m not playing music you’ll find me…at the movies.

I can’t perform unless I have…a drink and a pee.

My three dream festival headliners would be…Red Hot Chili Peppers circa BloodSugarSexMagik, De la Soul circa Bionix and David Bowie circa Hunky Dory.

You’ll always see me wearing…a blue backpack.

I wish I hadn’t…worried so much when I was a kid.

If there’s one thing I’ve learnt it’s…don’t sweat the bullshit.

Give me 10 minutes and I’ll cook a great…beans on toast.

Buy me a drink and I’ll…ask for ten more.

I’m not really into dubstep, but I do like Burial.

My favourite food is…Spaghetti Bolognese.

My favourite smell is… the way your skin smells being in the sun all day.

My next recent release is a tune called ‘Princess’, coming out on 4th of July! The video is doing the rounds right now.

99 Mash-ups…

Posted on Thursday, May 20, 2010 in Rap/Hip-Hop, Remixes

We’re a champion of Jay-Z mash-ups and there have been some shit hot ones since The Black Album (our favourite) was released.

It seems his tempo was just right to blend and mix songs from bands we had never expected. The Verve, Oasis, Fela Kuti and even Radiohead were interwoven and within these collections were some gems but also some absolute tripe.

So at Mahogany HQ, we’ve adopted the mentality of ‘the-more-the-merrier’ and we can all decide which ones actually cut the mustard.

This one, we believe, cuts the Colman’s or the French’s (depending on which you prefer!).

Kele Remixed

Posted on Tuesday, May 18, 2010 in Electro/Dance, Remixes

The original was a punch in the face and we all hold our breath for the eagerly anticipated The Boxer LP to be released.

No suprise then that we’ve got a Tenderoni remix – this particular one is from Larry Tee and Beckwith and we like it. A lot.

Mahogany Minute – Human Life

Posted on Tuesday, May 18, 2010 in Mahogany Minute ©

We grew up…flung across 3 corners of the US of A. Matt in Boston, Rachael in the OC and Josh in Chicago.

It all started when…Rachael admitted to us that she was secretly obsessed with the Pointer Sisters.

If we’re not recording or playlist music you’ll find us…out in LA getting into trouble.

We can’t perform unless we have…kids ready to get down and a bottle of vodka.

One country we’re dying to play live in is…Jamaica. It’s a musician’s country, if the crowd respects you there, you’re the real deal.

Our dream festival headliners would be…Underworld, Daft Punk and The KLF.

You’ll recognise us by our…awesome dance moves.

We wish we hadn’t…checked-in our Moog synthesizer on the way to Paris…the extra peanuts they gave us as a consolation for losing it just aren’t the same.

If there’s one thing we’ve learnt it’s…take advantage of the free drinks before our set cos you’ll never find that guy with the drinks tickets again.

Give us 30 minutes and we’ll cook a great…Lebanese stuffed zucchini by Rachael.

Buy us a drink and we’ll…give you a high 5!

We’re not really into gangsta rap but we do like Justin Bieber.

Our latest release is…In It Together out on LIFEX Recordings available from 7th June.
