Rhythm Of The Month

Posted on Friday, April 30, 2010 in Rap/Hip-Hop, Video

Loads and loads of mashups going around in the last 30 days and RJD2 has been the rhythm of choice for many-a-masher and rightly so -- he’s a legend.

Our post featuring S-Tone’s mashup of RJD2′s Ghostwriter and Lil Wayne’s Stuntin’ Like My Daddy is still hot in terms of traffic and before it dies down we’ve just got our hands on another one.

This one, by Tone-E (are they related?), swaps Lil Wayne for Jurassic 5 and it does it extremely well or is it the RJD2 song that goes well with everything?

Regardless, good mashup.

Bearcraft

Posted on Thursday, April 29, 2010 in Electronica, Pop/Rock, Video

Really liking the new single from Bearcraft out last week.

The core backbeat and retro finish is something that got our Mahogany heads nodding this morning despite the video which probably cost a tenner!

Street Lights

Posted on Wednesday, April 28, 2010 in Pop/Rock, Reggae & Dub

It’s only  a couple weeks since we featured new material from our favourite Reggae boy from North London and it looks like Natty’s eager for us to hear more of his recent stints in the studio.

The title hints at a possibly gritty tale of London however it’s light-hearted. We wanted gritty!

Still decent song and look forward to the bigger sounds from the upcoming album.

Mahogany Minute – Sinden

Posted on Tuesday, April 27, 2010 in Mahogany Minute ©

I grew up…on the crime side, the New York Times side, staying alive was no jive.

It all started when…we were younger, you were mine, my boo.

If I’m not playing music you’ll find me…in the club, bottle full of bub.

I can’t perform unless I have…whiskey and soda. Decent stuff please, no Harry’s House.

My three dream festival headliners would be…2pac, Miles Davis and Fela Kuti. Legends all of em.

You’ll always see me wearing…Visvim, Baseball Cap, Converse and a feminine looking holdall probably.

I wish I hadn’t…sold my Star Wars figures to that kid for £20.

If there’s one thing I’ve learnt it’s…you put in what you get out.

Give me 10 minutes and I’ll cook a great…poached egg, bit of spinach, fresh bread, maybe some salmon if it’s about and black pepper on top.

Buy me a drink and I’ll…big you up on my radio show.

I’m not really into Heavy Metal, but I do like Metallica.

My favourite food is…Italian. I’m trying to cook like Carluccio, I wanna work in his kitchen when I’m not in the studio.

My favourite smell is…fresh coffee or this Comme fragrance I’m wearing.

My next release will be…Sinden & SBTRKT -- Midnight Marauder on my new label ‘Grizzly’. Go and buy it or I’ll send the bears round.

Guns & Pork

Posted on Tuesday, April 27, 2010 in Rap/Hip-Hop, Video

If you’re familiar with the music videos of the UK Grime scene then you’ll be acustomed to avoiding them at all costs.

I saw this video this morning and was going to click straight away but the title persuaded me to click play. And I’m so happy I did.

One of the funniest songs and videos from this genre that I think I’ve ever seen.

Some of the parts (esp. the wheelchair part) are laugh out loud funny.

We’ve Got Mail Vol. 1

Posted on Tuesday, April 27, 2010 in We've Got Mail

We feel incredibly privelidged to receive so much music from all the corners of the globe and over the past few months we’ve felt that we may not have exposed enough of it as we should have.

So we’re excited to launch a new section within Mahogany that exposes the best of the best from our inboxes, mailboxes and pigeon holes.

Here’s the first batch.
