In The Mix(tape) – Adam F & Horx

A new edition to the Mix(tape) series is brought to us by Adam F and Horx. The 10-track mix for Radio 1 features the likes of DJ Fresh, Nero, Joker and Emalkay so you get the idea of how it’s going to sound.
Now, I’m going to be honest here and say that when I hear really heavy dubstep played in a club, I usually sigh and sit down because it’s just not the right thing for a dancefloor (in my opinion). Don’t get me wrong, I love a dirty dubstep tune but prefer it through my headphones.
The pull factor me for with this mixtape and the big reason that’s up on Mahogany is the fact that it features the upcoming Nero single titled Innocence which is due out soon but not quite soon enough.
Anyway this is packed to the rafters with filth so here it is.

Black Sands

Bonobo’s latest album is the best back-to-back album I’ve heard this side of 2010 and is firmly positioned in the Best Albums of 2010 list for Mahogany.
I was at a party last Saturday and put Black Sands on at around 3am in an attempt to slow things down a bit but it acted in almost the opposite way.
There are the old school fundamental beats that Simon Green aka Bonobo sticks too but the modern urban-inspired elements are introduced to make almost perfect instrumental and vocal-led songs.
Our favourites are the songs featuring Andreya Triana which are most definitely the upcoming singles planned for the album. The Keeper was pre-released back in 2009 but I’ve got a feeling it might make a comeback this year.
This Warrior One remix is available for free on his website.

Something Good Can Work

The new single for Two Door Cinema Club’s is out this week.
It’s a no brainer that this was on the single list for the young Irish lads’ debut album and we posted it over a year ago!
Buy it and watch it below!

I Wanna Rock
This is the way it’s meant to be.
Rid ourselves of the big budget Hype Williams style music videos and even rid ourselves of the rappers themselves and their G-funk ego’s.
Despite the fact that Jay-Z and Snoop are among Mahogany’s favourite rap stars, I still tend to get bored of the usual template rap video.
I Wanna Rock switches the stars for the streets and some modern day B-Boys and encapulates it’s environment perfectly.
Classic. Music. Video.

More DYM Sum?

We like DYM aka Damn You Mongolians (he’s not a racist, it’s from South Park!). He’s a UK based producer with an original sound. The word dubstep has become so vast and a lot of shit gets slapped with the label.
We’re currently in the earlish stages of evolution for the genre and I like to think that DYM is one of the tadpoles spouting tiny legs. I’m not saying that all these little creatures will all survive. But it’s a start.
The Raheem one is definitely our favourite!

Some Pics From SXSW

Next year I won’t get so drunk so early and forget to whip and my camera when I meet all kinds of bands.
And next year I’ll take a nice SLR.
And next year I won’t eat so many burritos.
And next year…

Magical World
The new Bassnectar effort tastes like a Diavolo from Pizza Express and Nelly Furtado’s vocals is the trademark creamy dressing which cools it all down.
The late 90′s and early 00′s were awash with boy-bands, choreographed ‘street’ dance and music videos by the beach. And to this day it hasn’t much changed. Luckily however we have kind people like Bassnectar who inject heavy and horrible basslines into dead old pop rocks.
Here is Bassnectar’s bass heavy rendition of Furtado’s Turn Out The Lights.
