August Heatwave

Posted on Thursday, February 18, 2010 in Rap/Hip-Hop

Two little bass rich tracks from Topaloff for you this afternoon.  Heavy on the samples, scratches and bass and one of those beats you hear in a trendy shop but never get round to asking the girl behind the counter who it is.

Royal Deluxe makes me feel like I’m walking down a New York street in a hot and sweaty August heatwave.

Lot’s of rhythm.

Devil’s Spoke

Posted on Wednesday, February 17, 2010 in Indie/Folk, Video

The new Laura Marling single is right up my street.

The last album, Alas I Cannot Swim, was all a bit too motionless for me apart from Ghosts which is a serious keeper.

I Speak Because I Can is being praised online and on air and although it’s been sitting on my desk for months, I’ve never gotten round to listening to it.

Saw the new video this week and it’s a real step up in the sense that it’s got a lot more life to it.

Dizzee & Florence at The BRITS

Posted on Wednesday, February 17, 2010 in Pop/Rock, Rap/Hip-Hop, Video

I’m not a fan of the BRIT awards but Dizzee Rascal and Florence (of Florence & The Machine) performed a world class duet last night.

Posted on Wednesday, February 17, 2010 in In The Mix(tape) ©

It’s been absolutely ages since the last In The Mix(tape) post so let’s kick it back into gear with two top notch ‘mixtapes’.

First up is from Australian boys Three Fingers. They’ve crammed some modern gems as well delicious remixes into just 10 minutes. But they’re golden minutes so savour every second. I’m hungry for more.

First Time Treat

Posted on Tuesday, February 16, 2010 in Drum and Bass, Rap/Hip-Hop, Remixes

Stumbled upon this little mashup today which is described as his ‘first ever mashup’ and it’s really good although the Dre bit is well off the mark. Apart from that, good first try!

The guy who made it (Ninjao) used BMW’s mini-movie The Hire in his YouTube video for this mashup. I’d never heard of it before but it was a mega-budget internet film campaign way back in 2001 starring Clive Owen and some other heavy hitters including Don Cheadle.

Guy Ritchie, John Woo, Ang Lee and Tony Scott were among the directors for each short action-packed film so I’m going to spend the next hour watching them!

The first one, The Ambush, is below.

Donut

Posted on Friday, February 12, 2010 in Drum and Bass, Electro/Dance, Electronica, Remixes

I’m not (usually) massively keen on mash-ups from an EP release but Living The Dream Records have comprised what could honestly (almost) be thrown down as an original single mix.

Combining the Radio and Single Edits with remixes from Boy 8-Bit, Logistics, Gui Boratto, Ben Hoo and James Talk, they’ve created a tasty minimal medley.

As the track progresses and merges into another, the tempo raises and it culminates in the Drum and Bass remix by Logistics.

Dandy.
