Girl I Love You

Posted on Tuesday, January 19, 2010 in Electronica, Remixes

The new and hotly-anticipated Massive Attack album is due in a couple of weeks – we’ve already heard the album and it’s incredible – there’s an influx of remixes left right and centre and the one’s we’ve heard so far have only complemented the originals so the boys have been very careful with who can officially rework their productions.

New remix this week then and it’s our favourite from She Is Danger.

Miike Snow – Silvia (Emalkay Remix)

Posted on Tuesday, January 19, 2010 in Dubstep, Remixes

Hope you all had a good weekend – I realised how relaxing last week was in terms of music so it’s time to turn that on it’s head with some dirty tracks to get us ready for the remainder of the work-week.

First up is Emalkay’s remix of our favourite track off the Miike Snow album, Silvia!

Easy Peasy

Posted on Friday, January 15, 2010 in Electro/Dance

One more before the weekend starts and the heavy drinking ensues and this one should warm you up slightly after a very chilled week in terms of music.

Groove Armada are one of the best live dance acts around especially when the big trumpet comes out for Superstylin’ and I wouldn’t mind catching them live this year.

Not that keen on their latest efforts but Vertigo and Lovebox are classic albums.

Easy and My Friend are my favourites for any mood I’m in.

Have a great weekend everyone.

Washed Out

Posted on Friday, January 15, 2010 in Alternative

It’s been a very relaxing week in terms of the music selections at Mahogany – I think it’s what we need after such a hectic Christmas and New Year – we’ll pick back up with some electro bangers next week but we’re in no major rush.

Alex Metric’s Radio 1 takeover was on last night and I managed to catch a bit of it in the car – some proper tracks in that and I was lucky enough to switch on during a Washed Out track (remember the video from the Video Drive-Thru Vol. 10?)

Metric describes it as a beautiful track and I agree but I get a warm and fuzzy ‘sunset’ feeling when I listen to it.

Ray LaMontagne

Posted on Thursday, January 14, 2010 in Alternative, Video

Whilst on the subject of great voices – one of Mahogany’s favourite voices has to be Ray LaMontagne’s raspy audibles.

The bearded singer/songwriter from the States has two songs from his Gossip In The Grain album that I’ve had on my sleep playlist for months.

Really beautiful stuff and I think you’ll all enjoy them.

The Wedding Singer

Posted on Thursday, January 14, 2010 in Alternative, Electronica, Remixes, Video

I’ve got no marriage plans for a long time but when that day comes I’d love to track down Erlend Oye (The Whitest Boy Alive) and ask if he’d do a couple of numbers during the reception.

His voice is like a smooth honey flavoured cigar that even a non-smoker like myself enjoys.

We put up a post last year about Amsterdam Acoustics who produce films in the same improvised style as Black Cab Sessions and Watch Listen Tell however all within the beautifully sordid city of Amsterdam.

Erlend Oye is a recent addition and they jump on a tram to perform a couple of Smiths covers and it’s lovely.

Anyway, don’t hold your breath for the wedding invitation and fingers crossed Mr Oye ain’t busy.

This track is taken from his DJ-Kicks session.

Say Yeasayer

Posted on Wednesday, January 13, 2010 in Alternative

Somethings different.

Their last album was almost too quirky, very experimental and even tribal and the new album has been injected with a kind of Underground Pop sound!

We love it.

When we heard the first single Ambling Alp in November we knew something was up. I wonder what made them change their ways – is it just the evolution of Yeasayer (pronounced ‘Yay-Say-Er’) or are they trying to reach into new audiences?

Don’t give a shit.

Odd Blood is full of great tracks – full of colour and fun and I strongly advise you give it a good listen. O.N.E. is our stand-out track from the release and here is it.

Yeasayer – O.N.E. (Live at The Terrace)

The sound set-up on this live version has a much nicer tint to it which I’m guessing was originally intented.

Lasers, Mt Kilimanjaro and LupEND

Posted on Wednesday, January 13, 2010 in Rap/Hip-Hop

Hmm Lupe – one of our favourite performers both live and recorded. He’s the complete package and the expected arrogance of a young rapper is non-existent so long live the man.

The news of his final album LupEND had everyone devasted but he announced a while back that there will be three albums before he ‘signs off’. The first, scheduled for release this year is to be called Lasers and there isn’t any clear date for it but we can’t wait.

He recently completed a successful expedition to the top of Mt Kilimanjaro in aid of clean water supplies for people in poverty in Africa alongside Kenna and Jessica Biel.

Enemy of The State is the name of the mixtape these came from and it was released back in November.
