Mt Eden Dubstep

Finally the New Zealand producer has delivered a high quality MP3 file of this epic re-work of a Freshly Ground song.

I thought it strange that he was running everything from a YouTube profile page simply because the information can be so vague but considering that a hell of a lot of people use YouTube to listen to music,  it’s not such a bad idea.

It seems the overwhelming requests for actual audio files have paid off and here it is in all its glory.

Jay-Z vs. The World

Posted on Thursday, January 28, 2010 in Rap/Hip-Hop, Remixes

I have a love/hate relationship with the shuffle function on my iPod.

Sometimes it’s rubbish and keeps putting on the same album or artist and other times it drops in a track that I haven’t listened to in years and it reminds me that having such a large collection can only result in neglect for all the good songs that deserve regular spinning.

Today my iPod chucked me a track from the Jay-Z vs Oasis mixtape AKA OJAYZIS and it’s definitely the strongest from the pot although it’s all good.

The Rulers Back and Wonderwall combined to make a heavy hitting mash-up – especially like the Oasis retaliation clip from Jockin’ Jay-Z.

Whilst we’re taking about Jigga mash-ups we might as well repost The Verve one!

Jump The Fence With Delphic

Posted on Monday, January 25, 2010 in Electronica, Remixes

The debut effort from Delphic is undoubtedly lining up to be one of the best albums of the year even though we’re only in January so it’s only right these guys keep making some form of music whilst riding high on the critical acclaim of the release and what better form than remixes eh?

They’ve focused their skills and talents on Phoenix’s fantastic track and it’s INCREDIBLE. The remix has got so much depth to it, it needs a good few listens to absorb it all.

I’m so glad that there’s a band we can sink our teeth into so early on in the year. Smart time to release a top record.

Repost: Officially addicted to The Wire

Posted on Monday, January 25, 2010 in Jazz/Blues/Country

the-wire

Ok so we’ve been an official blog for almost a year now and when we were a tiny little thing we were barely getting 10 views per post. Now most of you haven’t seen these posts judging on the statistics so every now and then we’re going to put up some things we really want  you to hear.

OK so I just spent Easter Weekend watching Season 1 of The Wire from back to back and I’m straight up addicted, regardless of whether I’m slightly lost at times. It’s going to be very anti-social weekend as Seasons 2,3,4 and 5 are almost complete!

Now the show doesn’t rely too heavily on a score or soundtrack which I prefer but every now and then they choose tracks that fit perfectly with the gritty and unforgiving Baltimore scene.

The last episode of Season 1 ends with a track by an old American singer named Jesse Winchester and after a lot of digging I found it for you.

Anyone else addicted to The Wire? Leave some comments if you love that show as much as I do.

Heaven

Posted on Monday, January 25, 2010 in Video

Very very cool video by the man Spike Jonze. He’s gone from strength to strength since his days as a music video director however I hope he still dips his toe into that bath again.

Don’t let impatience get the better of you here – you need to watch the whole thing because the seriously unexpected happens at around the third minute and it’s all in super slo-mo.

I Gave It Up For Lent(on)

Posted on Sunday, January 24, 2010 in Dubstep

We really like George Lenton here at Mahogany – he’s been consistently dropping in some filthy beats since mid-2009 and he’s just delivered his first taste of the New Year.

Surprisingly it’s a little more chilled and experimental than the norm but it’s nice to see an artist/producer diversify.
