Owl City Requires A Remix
You see Owl City is just a little bit too American Sweetheart for me. A bit too High School playground.
A bit too pre-teen.
When I first heard it I thought it was Ben Gibbard from Death Cab For Cutie but after 10 seconds, I shut my hand in the car door as punishment for the thought.
Anyway I haven’t listened to anymore of his music and don’t plan to – the only saviour are the remixes. And they’re not half bad.

Love your blog. I’m “snowed in” and stir crazy in Nashville, so I’ve been reading & downloading for awhile now.
I went to the Fireflies page out of morbid curiosity and ended up getting a good laugh after reading “. . . but after 10 seconds, I shut my hand in the car door as punishment for the thought.” (Such a Postal Service rip-off, but so darn catchy too.)
I got Fireflies in some iTunes sampler and made the mistake of using it as one of my Awaken reminders for my 3rd grade class. UGH — talk about wanting to slam your hand in a car door — it soon became a favorite and I was forced to listen to my class sing THE WHOLE SONG EVERY DAY at 1:00. (Thank the Lord, that reminder was no longer needed after Christmas. Um . . . heh, heh.)
So even though the first remix is nice, I will not be downloading it as I am fond of my sanity.
I agree with your opinion about Owl City. They seem like something that I would listen to back in middle school.
As for the Ben Gibbard reference, I would have to go out on a limb to resemble the two artists.
