Lost

If there’s one thing I miss each week it’s Lost.
Now I know a hell of a lot of people hate it and tons of people who starting watching it turned it off when things started getting beyond confusing but I absolutely love every minute of that utterly confusing show. It’s back in the new year for it’s final season and hopefully Mandelson’s new downloading law won’t kick in until it’s finished (because watching it with adverts is just too painful).
One of the most baffling things off all however, is how the lovable Hurley’s music player manages to play his CD’s throughout every season without the obvious need for new batteries. Regardless of the power issue, throughout the show he’s chosen two songs that I really like. Especially the Damien Rice one. It’s beautiful.
In this lonely patch between seasons, I’ve been dividing my time between some other stellar shows. Modern Family, Bored To Death, Curb Your Enthusiam and FlashForward are all well worth watching.

Watch Listen Tell – Golden Silvers
You may remember our little feature on a lovely London based video production company who film some really strong bands in and around the capital.
Bombay Bicycle Club was the video we featured last time but their YouTube Channel has exclusive acoustic performances by artists like Florence & The Machine, Speech Debelle and Peggy Sue And The Pirates.
Finally a new one has arrived and Golden Silvers deliver a nice raw version of Magic Touch.

We want more guys!
“I tend to play mostly villains and twisted people. Unsavory guys. I think it’s my face, the way I look.”

Christopher Walken is easily one of my favourite actors of all time. It’s his charm (although he hasn’t particularly charming in Sleepy Hollow but that wasn’t even much of a role anyway) and the fact that you believe his character no matter who he portrays. A fair few of his films are cemented securely in my movie library.
The Deer Hunter, King of New York, True Romance, his small but hilarious part in Pulp Fiction and Catch Me If You can are all films I’ve got and love. Now he’s done a lot more than what I’ve mentioned and granted in the last few years he’s done some pretty weak films but every man has a mortgage to pay.
I watched one of his latest films, $5 a day, and whilst it wasn’t his a particularly good film, I enjoyed watching Walken nonetheless. The end credits to the film feature this little ditty by charming UK artist Marcus Foster and I think you’ll all really like it.
The music has got a really nice pace to it – feels like I’m traveling down a sleepy American highway or something.
That may be why he’s in such high demand in the US.

Watch Your Step

Autumn is in full swing in London and it’s starting to get chilly so here are few light folky indie sounds for your listening pleasure and join us as we try to avoid all the hidden dog shit under the leaves.

Something Strange Going On

iPod shuffle on as I left the house this morning and a song I’ve never heard came on by Gang Gang Dance.
Instantly loved it but didn’t check who it was and then the first verse came in and I thought it was a remix of Rabbit Heart!
Seriously the first verses are identical. Strangely enough the track is from Pitchfork’s 2008 compilation and Florence’s album came out long after this. Did Flo borrow the verse?
Who knows the relationship between the two but check it out for yourself. You may need a double take on it just to confirm.
Anyway I love Gang Gang Dance track so listen and buy!

Aren’t they similar!!!
Nero ‘Knocks’ Out Another Remix!

The new brand new DJ Fresh tune has been given the ultimate reworking by Nero!
After moving into a brand spanking new studio (opposite Chase & Status!) the guys are now living and breathing music on a daily basis and producing new stuff like this.
This one isn’t as heavy as some of their other remixes – but it’s my favourite so far.

DJ Fresh got a nice HD cam for the official music video. Enjoy.
A New Day’s Dawn

This song really surprised me this morning.
It’s a 7-minute track and it starts off instrumentally and very gradually builds up. The whole song really makes you visualise the sun gradually rising in the morning. And then, almost out of nowhere, really beautiful vocals creep in for what can only represent the first tip of the bright star we call the sun rising in the horizon.
Slacker recently released his new album, Start A New Life, and the general tones of the album are as uplifting as this track which was given to the blog world exclusively by his label (it’s nice to see new ways of marketing that involves the blogs first!).
I went out on a mad one last weekend and started the gruelling journey home at 6.00am – it would have been really nice to have had this song playing as I set off into the freezing cold!

King(s) of New York

The video is out. This track properly caught Warner off guard when it soared to the charts when the album first dropped back in September and they had to rush to get a video out.
Luckily the video itself doesn’t feel rushed and Jay-Z remains the King of New York.
If anyone in the UK is at home tonight – he’s on Jools Holland alongside Foo Fighters so don’t miss it.
We’re not forgetting the original King of NY however…
