Quick Update – Byrds of Prey (DC Breaks Remix)

Posted on Tuesday, October 13, 2009 in Drum and Bass, Remixes

Just yesterday we featured the DC Breaks remix of Bertie Blackman’s new single however it was a radio rip so although it’s an epic track – you really need to hear it at the highest audio quality and without Annie Mac speaking over it.

Here it is!

Young Dead Actors

Posted on Tuesday, October 13, 2009 in Electronica, Pop/Rock

There’s something about showbiz that the Grim Reaper loves.

I can think of so many actors that died young. Whether it be death by misadventure, suicide, alcohol, drugs or just being incredibly fat, a lot of the best have bowed out too early.

We received some songs earlier in the week from a band who go by the name Young Dead Actors and although they’re not the ghosts of John Candy, James Dean, River Phoenix and Heath Ledger. We really liked their sound.

Sexy Australian electro-pop with a good tempo.

Bertie Blackman

Posted on Monday, October 12, 2009 in Drum and Bass, Electro/Dance, Remixes

Annie Mac has got some goodies under her sleeves (or her producers do) and over the weekend she played such a dirty drum and bass tune.

So good in fact that it reinvigorated me back into the genre and since then I’ve been hungry for high calibre more D&B. Any suggestions?

I searched long and hard online to find an actual MP3 file of the remix but to no avail so I made a radio rip. Can’t wait to have the actual audio file. Annie is talking at the beginning and the end but the song is too good for me just to have to myself.

As for Bertie Blackman – she’s an Australian singer who hasn’t gained much press here but she’s defintely got a big following back home.

Another remix of hers by Wild Turkey’s is also really nice. Chilled out and a little like something Simian Mobile Disco would make.

SOME night – Sound Of Musical Evolution

Posted on Monday, October 12, 2009 in Dubstep, Electro/Dance, News

Wednesday is limbo day – you’re halfway through the week and you’re not entirely sure what to do with yourself – for some of us, the weekend begins then.

A new night called SOME night in conjunction with our dear friends at SlyFly Records is in full swing every Wednesday at The Den (formerly The End) and so far they’ve been amazing and so now your Wednesdays can be fulfilled!

The launch night saw A1 Bassline, Cameo and Stenchmen (just to name a few) take to the decks in attempt to bring down the foundations of the building. The Mahogany Blog was down there in full swing and it was a night not to forget.

Last week, dubstep producer Silkie, Lee Mortimer and special guest Benga delivered filthy sets for the hundreds of ravers.

This wednesday (14th Oct) sees DJ Edjotronic of Boys Noize, N-Type, Bar9 and Klose One take on the huge crowd that descend on the Holborn hotspot. SlyFly’s very own Mike Kruger will be laying down his new mix which is going to be unmissable.

Room 2 will sound a little something like this.

Don Diablo vs Phoenix vs Jay-Z

Posted on Friday, October 9, 2009 in Rap/Hip-Hop, Remixes

Don Diablo has been churning out so many remixes recently that it’s actually hard to count how many he has in his arsenal. The latest one Ladies and Gentlemen, is very good indeed.

Jay-Z is a living legend and after over the past few years a string of  bootleg remix albums have been released which featured Jigga in ways we never imagined. The Grey Album, Viva La Hova, Jaydiohead, Nigerian Gangster, OJAYSIS and Billboard Gangsters all had their ups and downs but I prefer the one off mashup classics like Brush Your Bittersweet Shoulders Off that we featured a while back.

Phoenix’s Fences and Jay-z’s 99 Problems combined with the Don Diablo production is up there with the best of them.

Unfamiliar with the Jay-Z Bootlegs? Billboard Gangsters was the Elvis/Jay-z mashup album produced by Cookin’ Soul and here’s one of the tracks.

Anyone else slightly disappointed with The Blueprint III as a whole?
