Sleep Assistance From Our Readers

A while back I put up a song from my specially selected Sleep Playlist that lulls me off every night without fail (you can check it out HERE). I’ve got around 11 songs that I’ve had on every night since I can remember but I wanted the playlist to grow.
And that’s where you came in.
I can’t thank you all enough for inputting so many great recommendations in the comments section and I’ve featured some of the ones that I now love to go to sleep to.
Honestly, without you guys we would be nothing so please continue to read and share ideas on The Mahogany Blog!
David - Josh Garrels – Don’t Wait For Me – ![]()
Josh’s voice, musical composition and lyrics are absolutely stunning. He’s got a soul tinge to his soothing voice and the guitar and violins just follow perfectly behind it.

Bonobo is a downtempo legend and anything he does is worth a careful listen. Terrapin uses the sounds of beautiful Indian strings and vocal edits to create something stunning. I used to have pet Terrapins – I wouldn’t advise them to anyone!
Dmitri - The Middle East – Blood – Download from Amazon UK
The title sounds like something quite crazy but this indie-folk outfit from Australia sound as far from that as possible. Really nice song that melts the ears.

Auco - Jónsi & Alex – Boy 1904 – ![]()
Anything that includes the singer from Sigur Rós is going to be interesting and Boy 1904 is a classical track that makes you feel as if you’re on your way to heaven. It’s from the Riceboy Sleeps album that’s had amazing reviews all round.
Damani - The Dandy Warhols – Sleep – ![]()
Lots of sleepy psychedelic sounds from the Warhols. I wish I could ‘sleep forever’ on a Monday morning.

Thank you everyone and please keep up with the great comments – they don’t get ignored!
Fresh Delivery: The Lytics

Rap is in a wierd state at the moment – the next huge rap release is The Blueprint III but it’s been ages since I’ve heard fresh new music from a relatively unheard of group that I can say I love.
Almost everyday I flick back to my old school hip-hop as you can see in The Cassette Years series on TMB but as of yesterday I can finally play something released this year that channels back to the good ol’ days yet retains a real modern excellence.
Munga, A-Nice, Ashy and DJ Action Rick are The Lytics and I think all you’ll love them.
Good production on a hip-hop release is so so important and Alex ‘B-Flat’ Sannie (Zion I) has worked closely with these four lyricists to produce the self-titled debut out 12th September.
We’ve been given an MP3 from the release which will warm you up for the album.

Bring Me Sunshine – Rise The Temperature

Where has the Sun gone? Need it Honolulu hot (and dry) next week for Bestival where there should be plenty of dubstepping to be done. And we don’t need to be doing any dubstepping while we’re up to our knees in mud and sloshing about in wellies and waterproofs. Bestival last year was like ‘Nam; if you weren’t there then you just don’t know!
Although Cotti isn’t due to make an appearance at Rob Da Bank’s Outer Space themed festival this year, several of his remixes and original songs should be turning up. Cotti has worked with some top dubstep artists in the last couple of years, including Rusko and Skream and he’s still only 12 years old (citation). His Sensi Dub reworking remains high on the dubstep- reggae Hall Of Fame.
Rise The Temperature has already been around for an age but has yet to see an official release. Rusko dropped it in his Essential Mix last December and it’s been on mixtapes and DJ playlists since then. The chorus is catchier than herpes!
It’s an up-tempo, tropical-holiday tune and dubstep all the way (…and one and two and THREE and four and…). It’s easy to imagine this tearing up the dancefloor with a four-to-the-floor beat -- get A1 Bassline on the case. No idea if it’s an original composition or a lift from elsewhere and don’t really care.
Cotti ft. Doctor -- Rise The Temperature
Special mention for the Doctor’s performance on vocals -- uplifting niceness. Again no idea who the Doctor is but he also lent lyrical largeness to Cotti’s Calm Down.

Drop dubstep not bombs… or rain.

In The Mix(tape) Vol. 1 – Little Boots

It’s come to my attention that mixes and mixtapes are rarely on TMB and that’s all going to change considering how any great ones I’ve got on my laptop.
In The Mix(tape) is a new category you’ll now see in the sidebar and it’s going to feature all the mixes I’ve got lying about from huge stars to underground gems.
First up is an August mixtape from Little Boots – not just a pretty face it seems. There’s clearly a few audio programs on her computer and between gigs she puts together some tasty electro tracks and the result is not bad at all!
Of all the ‘celebrity DJ’ sets you see at bars and clubs – Little Boots is about the only one I wouldn’t mind hearing.

It Runs In The Family (and Spouse)

Where the hell has Feist gone?
I loved her album and still play it now and again but it seems after the storm died down around her she disappeared back to the Canadian Rockies.
After a bit of research it seems she’s back touring with her first musical group Broken Social Scene and her current beau plays alongside her.
Kevin Drew also has a little folky-indie solo project and one of his songs came up on the iPod last week and I had no idea I had it.
There’s nothing better than hearing a little gem you never knew you had – the result of frantic download sessions.
Anyway here’s the track.
