Josh Garrels

Posted on Tuesday, September 8, 2009 in Alternative

It’s 4 in the morning and the only thing keeping me going is Josh Garrels.

Arguably, doing anything at 4am apart from sleeping isn’t going to be done well but I need you (if you’re awake) to hear these songs.

I featured one of Josh’s songs earlier in the week after being tipped off by a faithful TMB reader and I’m going to feature him again just in case you missed it the first time

I’m shocked that he hasn’t been picked up by a label like 4AD or Rough Trade – he suits their kind of DIY artist repertoire perfectly. It’s either the fact that he hasn’t been heard by the right person or he’s simply not one for fame and fortune. I hope it’s not the latter because I’d love to see him live in London.

His fourth album Jacaranda has just recently been preceded by a new one titled Lost Animals and you can hear some of the new tracks on his MySpace. For the rest of the week I’m just going to indulge in Jacaranda but I do have every intention of moving to the new one soon.

Season of Rain and Don’t Wait For Me are smart and most of all thought provoking. Not only the lyrical content but the musical arrangements as well as his voice are captivating in every way, shape and form.

If you’re going to buy anything this week – buy Jacaranda or Lost Animals.

Let me know what you think.

I’m delighted that you’re enjoying Josh’s music as much as my wife and I do. We’ve been listening and sharing him with friends for a few years now after we were introduced to his music by a friend who used to go watch him play at a coffeehouse in Indiana.

You may already have heard of the band Tilly and the Wall, but in case you haven’t, you should. They use a tap dancer for most of the percussion. Good fun indie stuff.

Another artist you may want to check out is John Mark McMillan particularly the albums entitled, ‘The Song Inside The Sounds of Breaking Down’, and ‘The Medicine’. Good, pure, indie rock.

Thanks for all the fine music you share with those of us who’ve found your gem of a blog!

Josh Garrels and me, sittin’ in a tree….I agree with you, why doesn’t everyone know Josh? I’m working on that as we speak — through tv, film placements. Love your blog, btw. If you get the chance, check out my site at http://www.LakeHouseSound.com for some of the artists we represent. If you have any questions about any of the songs, happy to answer them. Thank you for sharing Josh’s music with your following. You are a good man.

    Rock on….
