Bassnectar Returns

Bassnectars new album Cozza Frenzy was released in the US earlier this week and he’s already sitting pretty at 12 in the iTunes album chart. It just goes to show how hugely respected he actually is…
Fresh off the desert sands of the Burning Man festival, it’s a busy time for the man to say the least so when his team contacted Mahogany and officially asked us to post his new song we were so honoured!!!!
His Lupe Fiasco remix we featured a little while back was one of TMB’s biggest features and the Hype Machine community illustrated his popularity with the number 1 spot in the popular chart and over 700 little heart thingys!
So the song we’ve got for you from the exciting new album is the Bassnectar remix of Fever Ray’s When I Grow Upand it’s without doubt one of the hottest remixes right now. The remix doesn’t retract from the original too much but injects an infectious bass-heavy coating as well as trademark Bassnectar sounds which suit it perfectly.

Number One Kids

There are three big things that I want to do in the next couple of years.
One of them is learn to DJ in some form or the other – whether it be to myself on my laptop or in a bar somewhere in London – I just want to drop certain songs and see the smiles on peoples faces.
Filewile’s new EP is hard to describe but I think the two songs featured below would raise some smiles if dropped in the correct setting. The easy route to describe them is to say it’s ‘funky electro soul’ but that just sounds like I’m some tacky minimum wage NME journalist on his/her twelfth vague review of the day.
So instead of breaking the adjectives out, have a listen for yourself and think Groove Armada meets Erykah Badu after they split a pill.

One thing I didn’t expect when I first started this blog back in February was to receive so much music from so many different kinds of musicians.
We don’t post anything on TMB that we don’t absolutely love so whatever we get sent has to make our ears twitch.
J.Viewz’ dropped into the inbox this week and my ears twitched alot!
Brooklyn’s Jonathan Dagan aka J.Viewz is an acclaimed producer and remixer whose electronic/jazz/funk sounds are tearing it up all over the world. He released his debut album, Muse Breaks, back in 2005 and since then he’s taken his music on the road with the help of his full live band including vocalist Noa Lembersky.
As well as original material, the musical group perform live renditions of J.Viewz’ remixes including versions of Michael Jackson’s Smooth Criminal, Depeche Mode’s Peace and his lastest, Nina Simone’s Seeline Woman.

On November 6th the live show touches down in New York City for a late-night set at the legendary Blue Note Jazz Club! You can buy tickets for the gig here!
Check out live version of Seeline Woman below -- their stage presence really reminds me of Groove Armada. All the musicians getting totally emersed in their own part of the song. Lovely stuff.

Let The Lion Out The Cage

The Mark Ronson remix of Animal is still hot off the press on The Mahogany Blog and now another big boy has delivered a new remix.
Now that Miike Snow are (deservedly) blowing up all around the world the high profile remixes are starting to churn out and now the Dubstep heavyweights are stepping up to the stage.
It’s a really mellow chilled out remix which surprised me alot -- I would like to hear it turned up all the way to 11 in terms of filth but this one seems to be a bit caged up -- maybe it was requested?
I still like it though. See what you think.

We’ve done a good few posts on Mahogany about Miike Snow -- they’re definitely one of the most exciting artists to emerge this year and you have to see them live! Completely blew me away.
Tongue N’ Cheek

It’s been a good few days since the last TMB post – my stomach has been playing up big time and I’ve been trying to update ever since.
Anyway I got Dizzee Rascal’s album last night and as I began to listen to it I realised that although he’s gone down the Commercial Road, he definitely hasn’t sold out.
Firstly he started his own label, Dirtee Stank, and done it all by himself which has granted him the freedom he needs to do things his own way and secondly he’s collaborated with some major players. Namely Alex Turner from the Arctic Monkeys and Calvin Harris.
He’s managed to situate himself in the industry as a likable guy and someone who can be listened to by children or adults – rich or poor – black or white – EVERYONE!
So back to the album briefly. There are tracks on it that would never make their way onto radio yet the album still blends nicely and doesn’t come across as a patch-work quilt of rap and pop.
Below are two of my favourite tracks from the album – the first of which is produced by Shy Fx!
