Disco Pusher

Posted on Friday, August 7, 2009 in Electro/Dance, Electronica, Pop/Rock, Remixes

Hearts on Fire was already one of the best pop-dance tracks of last year and I welcome all well thought out remixes with open arms and so when Disco Pusher sent me their remix collection, I was a very happy bunny.

New York’s Disco Pusher are more than just a pair of DJ’s with synthesizer and beatbox. Sisko and Dave Greenberg provide their talents to almost any musical corner.

Their website lists their services and it’s extensive to say the least. Record & Song Production, Songwriting, Remixing, Film Scoring (trailers, commercials, video games) and Engineering to name but a few.

I was a little shocked at how remixes they’ve actually done as well as original songs.

I’ll be keeping a close eye of these guys throughout the year.

The Lykke Li remix is exceptional. Her vocals are so delicate in the original and this version manages to maintain that softness.

Finally the New Zealand producer has delivered a high quality MP3 file of this epic re-work of a Freshly Ground song.

I thought it strange that he was running everything from a YouTube profile page simply because the information can be so vague but considering that a hell of a lot of people use YouTube to listen to music,  it’s not such a bad idea.

It seems the overwhelming requests for actual audio files have paid off and here it is in all its glory.

MCA-ADan-Youch

After Beastie Boys member Adam ‘MCA’ Yauch recently revealed he was diagnosed with cancer the All Points West concert had to find a replacement and Jay-Z took the offer.

Coldplay’s Chris Martin and Jay-Z paid fitting tribute to the man.

We wish Adam and his family a full recovery and hopefully another record when the dust settles.

The Kitsuné Effect

Uplifting is the first word that I associated when I first heard Delphic on the radio last night.

It was great driving around Central London with the volume turned up just below breaking point and the front windows down.

I love this single – it progresses perfectly into an electro-indie single with quick paced but gentle vocals – very radio friendly but completely uncommercial.

There’s absolutely no surprise that this is being released via Kitsune who, each year, have some of the most diverse and exciting bands come through their label.

Let’s compare Kitsune and the major record labels to high street fashion stores.

Kitsuné is the slightly run down fashion store at the quieter and slightly more run down end of the street whilst up the road it’s huge and shiny competitors beam to the public with big ad campaigns.

It’s Kitsuné however that constantly have their ear to the ground on what’s hot and release some incredibly fashionable things that get the undying attention of it’s competitors.

The big shiny fashion stores finally catch onto this really late in the day and a cheap lookalike with no real quality is released that the majority of the high street shoppers go for – unaware that a genuine piece is sitting pretty in the quiet Kitsuné shop.

And for the few of us who shop at Kitsuné, we are undoubtedly, the most satisfied customers on the high street.

Here’s the song – out on August 31st.

A Change Is Gonna Come

As incredible as the music was back in the days of Sam Cooke – I’ve never once wished to have live through that era.

The prejudice and discrimination in the US at the time inspired Sam Cooke to write what would become the most important song during the Civil Rights Movement.

The song wasn’t a big hit in terms of chart success – but essentially it was never intended to be. After writing the song, Cooke was sceptical about recording it due to his large white fan base however, an incident in 1963 where he and his band were wrongly arrested, proved to be the catalyst for Sam and his manager to record and release the song.

Sam Cooke proved that songs don’t just have to be aimed at entertaining an audience but they can change the perspective of millions – something Bob Dylan did with ‘Blowin’ In The Wind’ earlier in that same year.
