Sleep Assistance

Nowadays a carefully selected iTunes playlist is to thank for getting me to sleep.
No longer can I rely on silence to nod off, instead some incredibly slow and relaxing songs at a very low level help in sending me to the clouds. It’s a little like counting sheep now but replace sheep with songs and see how many you can last.
The first song in my sleep playlist is from the album Plans by Death Cab For Cutie.
Death Cab For Cutie – Brothers On A Hotel Bed
More sleep playlist tracks to follow soon.

Amsterdam Acoustics

Idyllic settings and promising new bands made a couple of dutch guys create Amsterdam Acoustics.
It’s simple -- grab a band during their sleazy trip to Amsterdam and manage to get them to perform a few songs in between brothel and coffee house. Apologies -- that was distasteful.
The XX are the first band to catch my eye here but I’m definitely going to be checking back to see who else they grab.
Lots of big names play the Paradiso every month so as long as they’ve got the hook up, we’ll be seeing Amsterdam Acoustics join ranks with The Black Cab Sessions in London.
The XX -- Crystalised
Here’s a bit of The Black Cab Sessions.
Death Cab For Cutie -- No Sunlight
House Party

Pryda – Melo
If I started reading an Eric Prydz post on a blog then there’s a good chance I’d uninstall Firefox and throw my Macbook out the window. I can’t stand the commercial radio designed dance tracks he’s churned out but when I first heard his alternative musical identity under the name of Pryda, I was interested.
Melo is one of the strongest tracks he’s put out under Pryda.
Verdict: Much better than Eric Prydz.
Deadmau5 – I Remember (Caspa Remix)
Right now you can’t talk about house music without referencing the man of the hour Deadmau5.
If you’ve heard the recent radio version of Ghosts N Stuff then like me, you might gasp in shock at how shit it is. I know he wants to up his profile and gain some media spotlight but don’t sacrifice you’re best tune. And don’t make it sound like a Pendulum track either.
So let’s smooth the edges by wrapping some dubstep around another radio designed track.
Back From New York

OK back from New York after an eventful little holiday and there’s definitely a noticeable gap in posts since then.
I had these tracks playing on the iPod during the painful ‘battery chicken’ style plane ride and they soothed my aching body.
Modeselektor – The White Flash ft. Thom Yorke
First up is the incredible collaboration between Berlin producers and Thom Yorke that features on Modeselektors album.
Brookes Brothers vs Futurebound – Dawn Treader
I’d like to compare Drum & Bass to fizzy drinks. There is definitely a ‘Diet’ or ‘Light’ option with a lot of the new stuff coming out and to be honest I prefer it – This one’s a favourite of Annie Mac and now a favourite of mine.Holy Ghost! – Hold On – download
Aesop Rock – None Shall Pass
Aesop is a true lyricist – not a rapper who spits a few lines and then hangs on the chorus. There must be seven or eight pages of words here – It’s hard to believe the talent some people have to spit these kind of songs.
Ladyhawke – Paris Is Burning (Alex Metric Remix)
Alex Metric is a Mahogany favourite and so far all his remixes have delivered. The vocal edits are a bit of a trademark now. Looking forward to his set at Neon Noise in August in London!
Friendly Visual Delight

The video for Friendly Fires’ new single is up and it’s great.
Shot on the coast of Ibiza with the classical African skin drums -- perfect summer track. Radio is going to like this one.
They deserve the Mercury Music Prize more than anyone.
Check out our previous post for the MP3.
Friendly Fires -- Kiss Of Life
TEef vs. FrankMusik

Rising UK rapper TEef seems to have teamed up with FrankMusik for this little video however I can’t see Frank anywhere -- but who needs him eh?
He recently supported Enter Shikari so he’s taking an alternative route down the rap road. Expanding out and reaching to new audiences is key. Good luck to him.
Move over Wiley?
Nearly.
