A Little Recap

Hello readers,
We thought we’d recommended some older posts to you as we’re starting to build and build on so many pages so these little gems sometimes get lost in it all – it’s the music that stills plays through our speakers on a regular basis so enjoy.
- Two Door Cinema Club
- Imogen Heap – Headlock (High Contrast Remix)
- Alessi’s Ark
- Phoenix
- Golden Silvers – True Romance
- FrankMusik
- Magistrates
We’re still adding the audio player to some of our older posts so at the moment the only option is to download them however all the links above have the played embedded.
(Big things predicted for Irish outfit Two Door Cinema Club!)
Vuitton Blues

Ah this brings back memories of a good night at 93 Feet East when these guys played a great set.
Considering there are 7 band members including two singers the energy is perfect. They don’t edge toward any particular genre either: instead they easily cherry pick small aspects of many popular genres and the result is all lovely and warm!
They’ve been doing the rounds in the UK for the past couple of years now – it’s difficult to say whether they’ll make it to the mainstream and it may not even be what they’re looking for but the likes of Huw Stephens (BBC Introducing), Steve Lamacq (Radio 1) and John Kennedy (Xfm) are all big fans. If I were in a band I’d much prefer to be admired by them rather than the awful Jo Wiley, Fearne Cotton and Edith Bowman brigade.
That trio make me ill.

Paolo Nutini Returns

It’s been a while since we’ve heard anything new from Paolo Nutini although tracks from his first album still make their way onto the radio from time to time.
It’s fair to say that if his new album continued in the some fashion as his debut, These Streets, then this post probably wouldn’t exist as we’ve all moved on from the singalong songs like Jenny Don’t Be Hasty and New Shoes.
I’ve heard the full album and saw him perform at his album showcase in April and it’s abundantly clear he’s done some serious growing up. Gone are the days of catchy Radio 1 choruses as musical greats like Otis Redding, Sam Cooke and others alike make their influential presence known throughout. His live show was great and you wonder how his voice reaches such unique notes until you hear him speak and it’s no lie when I say a translator is almost required as his Scottish accent is unbelievably thick.
Granted the album gets a little samey at times but he’s only on his second record. It’s easy to judge an artist on such a few records because the industry only expect most of their artists to have a three-album life span. I predict a life time in music for Paolo and hope the majors don’t handle him incorrectly. So far it’s going very well.
The first single from Sunny Side Up is Candy. Here it is.
This Caspa Ain’t So Friendly

Absolutely classic dubstep track from Caspa. It’s not as rowdy as some of the dubstep that’s coming out at the moment but the gentle bassline and oriental sample is the perfect combination.
Someone needs to create a Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon mashup video with this track in the background.
This kind of track demonstrates how versatile he is as an artist and pushes the genre to new heights.
His tour schedule on MySpace is shockingly long and he’s not doubt pocketing some big stacks for each show. Good on him!
I don’t think there’s a city or festival he isn’t playing in 2009.
Caspa – Cockney Violin
Let’s All Take Chemicals

Two stand out tracks from the Push The Button album.
Nuff said.
Chemical Brothers – Hold Tight London
Chemical Brothers – Close Your Eyes ft. The Magic Numbers

The Rise and Rise of Lupe

When I first heard Lupe Fiasco was planning to retire after his yet to be finished third album, I wasn’t disappointed at all.
Lupe is unmistakably one of the freshest rappers around who has taken the likes of Jay-Z and Kanye West by storm and taken the ‘backpack rap’ troop to new heights.
So why I am not disappointed?
Because he’s delivered. He’s delivered his musical message, portrayed himself through style and grace and toured the world to sell out crowds. So unlike others who keep pushing out vague albums and videos that get tackier and tackier, Lupe doesn’t need to milk the cow unnecessarily.
We’ve all heard our fair share of rap retirement stories but Fiasco seems sincere.
Let’s bath in his glory and listen to some good ol’ Lupe.
Lupe Fiasco – Little Weapon
Lupe Fiasco – Happy Industries
Lupe Fiasco – Comin’ From Where I’m From
More Wood For The Fire

Right then, tickets in hand for Friendly Fires gig at the Forum so what better way to celebrate than a little Frankie Knuckles track covered by the boys themselves?
Featured on the Ministry of Sound: Uncovered compilation this cover fits Friendly Fires almost too perfectly.
This band are in for big things – they’re with the best label (XL Recordings) for musical freedom which is why they’ve been able to do what they’ve done so far. Imagine the catastrophe if they were to be signed to someone like Universal or EMI.
Don’t do it boys.
