It’s Decision Time

busta-rhymes

OK Busta Rhymes is famed for his club bangers like What It Is, Touch It and New York Shit and whilst that might make the ladies flock to the dancefloor it’s gets a little too much for me – I want to chill.

His new album Back On My B.S. isn’t playing repeatedly through my speakers but one track definitely is.

There are some big ego’s on this track but no one tries to takeover. Produced by D12 member Mr. Porter, it’s great to hear such a gentle beat on such a hyped rap artist’s album.

Common steals the show for me hands down.

Whilst we’re at it let’s see some Busta as a young man.

Frankmusik – 3 Little Words (Black Ghosts Mix)

Frankmusik will definitely be a prominent artist this year but since signing to Universal some of the new tracks up on his MySpace sound very very tame. Luckily this track is an oldie so it’s still got that original edgy pop sound plus the glorious remix job by The Black Ghosts.

This Black Ghosts remix of Three Little Words is how I first stumbled upon Frankmusik so be all means it deserves to be up here.

I’m going to post the mixtape that this track came from a little later on so check back for it!

A Metric Ton!

There are two producers that are leading the way in 2009 – one is Paul Epworth (who we’ll add a post about very soon) and the other is Alex Metric.

Having just produced the new Adam Freeland album the boy is on a high at the moment for not only are his own productions fantastic but his remixes are gathering amazing attention on hundreds of blogs around the world.

He’s playing dates in loads of cities this year from the big big clubs to the little niche ones – I’m going to make sure I hit at least one when he’s in London – for sure. I just bought both his EP’s online so check them out on the link if you like what you hear.

The first track is my favourite from a slick compilation and is pure minimal goodness and the other is at the end of the spectrum in terms of tempo so turn it up before you play these.

Finally Theophilus London

Move over Kanye West there’s another rapper in town who’s leading the way in reinvigorating the hip-hop genre.

Theophilus London offers slick beats, 80′s electro sounds and the nice feeling of fresh blood into the industry.

Following in very similar footsteps as Lupe Fiasco and joining the ‘Backpack rap’ troop it seems this young man is poised to take the reigns after Lupe’s proposed retirement after his next album. His mixtape, This Charming Mixtape, shows he’s not just influenced by rap but The Smiths play a part in his musical history.

By far our favourite track is Computer Love featuring Swedish singer Lykke Li however the production behind Cold Pillow could easily be mistaken for a Jay-Z joint, it’s that good. Day One Fans on the other hand sounds like a Chromeo track – he’s already covered so many bases so many rappers fear to do.
