Kate Bush – Running Up That Hill (Datassette Remix)

Posted on Tuesday, April 21, 2009 in Electronica, Pop/Rock, Remixes

katebush

There’s been a hell of a lot of remixes on Mahogany recently and this one is joining the brigage.

I love Kate Bush and this Datassette remix is the perfect track if you’re having a busy day or you’re rushed off your feet.

Everyone from Placebo to Patrick Wolf have tried their hand at covering this track and succeeded but this Datassette version steals the show.

It’s very minimal and very light and very very good.

Gorillaz – Feel Good Inc (Stanton Warriors Remix)

Posted on Tuesday, April 21, 2009 in Electro/Dance, Rap/Hip-Hop, Remixes

Gorillaz - billiards

Holy shit this remix is seriously juicy – I haven’t heard Gorillaz for ages now, it hasn’t even come on via shuffle for at least a year (have a lot of music) so to hear this properly blew me away.

It makes you appreciate Gorillaz a lot for the original but then you take your hat and hair off for Stanton Warriors.

It’s not often we post up tracks from the same group in one week but we had to make the exception – couldn’t keep this from you guys and girls.

This isn’t the only Feel Good Inc remix/cover that’s on Mahogany – check out the Editors Cover.

Moby – God Moving Over The Face Of The Waters

Posted on Tuesday, April 21, 2009 in Soundtracks, Video

heat

Arguably one of my favourite films of all time is Heat – De Niro and Pacino have never been better enemies and we’ll never forget that downtown L.A. shoot-out.

My favourite Moby track is featured in the soundtrack for this film and it’s one of the most epic songs I’ve ever heard.

The track is from his 1997 compilation album ‘I Like To Score’ so it was from quite early on in his career.

Whoever was on the piano during this song would get a hug from me.

New Asher Roth tracks

So after the catchy I Love College track came out we were refreshed with his relaxed and happy lyrics coupled with his laid back non-gangster style so we were kinda looking forward to the album.

Now there’s no doubt that Asher Roth sounds like Eminem’s privileged little brother who lives in California and parties with the characters from The O.C. however I’m not going to judge him for that after all Biggie Smalls went to private school.

I listened to the album and generally enjoyed it – good production and the some good collaborations (especially Cee-Lo) – I’m not very good at reviewing albums so I’m not going to go into detail. Just check out our favourite tracks from the album, strangely titled, Asleep In The Bread Aisle.

Check out our two favourite tracks from the album – have a listen and check the buy links if you like it.

Stanton Warriors – Pop Ya Cork ft. Twista

Stanton Warriors are literally leading the way when it comes to Breakbeat and Electronica – after listening to their Fabriclive you want to smash your head against a brick wall because you weren’t there for it.

This track features rapper Twista and is from The Stanton Sessions Vol. 2 – the comp features some serious tracks but nothing compared to the Fabriclive mix.

I haven’t posted any hip-hop/rap so this is perfect.

Some highlights from the Fabriclive will surface on Mahogany this week!

Kasabian – Underdog

Posted on Monday, April 20, 2009 in Indie/Rock

kasabian

When Kasabian released their self titled debut album back in 2004 it was such a breath of fresh air for UK alternative rock. They merged their own brand of electronica with progessive alternative rock and delivered a classic record.

Then came their follow-up titled Empire which was simply shit. Nuff said.

Now songs from their new album are starting to surface. A second track has just been featured on a UK advert and it’s back to their old ways. The tracks fantastic and I cannot wait to hear the full album.

West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum is due out June 8th so make sure you grab it.

Tommy Sparks – She’s Got Me Dancing

Posted on Monday, April 20, 2009 in Electro/Dance, Pop/Rock

tommy-sparks

A new artist on the scene from Sweden is Tommy Sparks.

He’s joined a host of artists like FrankMusic, Alphabeat, La Roux and Ladyhawke that come under the ‘Wonky Pop’ group which kind of means pop music with a slight edge – some edgier that others to tell the truth.

Electronic music is quickly making it’s way into mainstream pop – it’s good to see the pop genre evolving in a good sense compared to the way mainstream hip-hop is progressing which is downright upsetting (Let’s all stick to Common, Talib Kweli and the other proper lyricists).

Tommy Sparks has been under the wing of his good friends The Prodigy and it’s clear he has a musical past in electro and hip-hop.

Kings of Leon – Use Somebody (RAC Remix) plus lots more

Posted on Sunday, April 19, 2009 in Electronica, Remixes

rac van

Recently discovered RAC (Remix Artist Collective) who have done a hell of a lot of remixes on some seriously big songs.

I know little about who they are but they consist of Andre Allen Anjos, Andrew Maury and Crookram representing the US, Portugal and the Netherlands.

They’ve got a cool blog as well featuring all their remixes and compilation CD’s that feature some of their mixes so be sure to check them out on the link at the bottom of this post.

The remixes are very subtle and stick closely to the originals but add a nice electronic/dance backdrop.

We thought we’d post a good few for you so you get a good taste for RAC.
