Dusk + Blackdown

The Darjeeling Limited left an empty pit in my stomach for travelling across India on a train with only a bag on my back. Unfortunately that ain’t going to happen tonight but as an alternative this song manages to take me there whilst injecting some of Dusk + Blackdown’s modern dub/electronic sounds.
You can definitely hear hints of Burial and Thievery Corporation in this track – it does need some bass however so tune your equalizer or put it on your big speakers.

Thievery Corporation – Lebanese Blonde
Bat For Lashes – Daniel

No need to write much about the follow-up single from Brighton-based Natasha Khan AKA Bat For Lashes…It’s near perfection.
It’s the first single from her new album and after this I can’t wait to hear all 11 tracks. Especially the track featuring Yeasayer!
Can you hear the hints of Kate Bush echoing through the song?
Nuff said.

Magistrates – Make This Work

Introducing Magistrates, one of XL Recordings bands for 2009 (they’ve got so many promising artists this years it’s a joke).
It looks like Essex is fighting off it’s bad reputation and chucking out some good music. I think the image of nagging blondes and souped-up hatchbacks will always remain in many of our hearts however.
I saw these guys at the Camden Crawl last year and hoped to see them again at Bestival but the stage sank in the Glastonbury-esque mud!
Heartbreak is the new single expected to drop in early May.

As for XL Recordings, well, that deserves an entire post!
We love Two Door Cinema Club

What a feel-good song to get us in the mood for the summer.
The song borders on some of the cheesy indie-pop we’ve seen in the past 2 years but it easily manages to shrug it off.
Finally people are realising that the indie sound that plagued the last 2 years needs to change – even if it means getting more commercial.
It kind of reminds us of the American Pie film.
Brilliant!

Miss Kittin – Rippin Kittin

This was played to Mahogany last Saturday morning (5am) whilst enjoying the perils of social life and it was actually the most addictive thing of the entire night!
Miss Kittin’s been working the underground for years – moving from Paris to Switzerland to Chicago and back again – mainly focusing on DJ’ing and producing techno with a whole host of exciting names.
Currently on tour with The Hacker across a lot of Europe touching at Fabric in London this weekend. It’s very tempting to head down although we weren’t really feeling her tracks on Myspace, we won’t hold that against her considering she’s released 9 albums.

Notorious BIG & MGMT – Nasty Feel!

Hmmm now this is a good mashup – not entirely sure who has done this but they deserve a pint.
We haven’t seen the NOTORIOUS film yet – what’s the need of a visual representation when he described his life better than anyone through his music and lyrics.
